Slide To Frame Fit...And a Bit More

Thu Dec 28, 2017 10:26 pm

KGBSUCKA came by today with a Para-Ordnance P12-45 that needed a slide fit to the frame. The original slide had cracked and this new old stock slide would not travel the full length of the frame.

A slide to frame fit was in order. Since the slide was fitting up to the ejector, I suspected the fitting would need to start about there. With some blue sharpie we confirmed it was there and along a slot. Hand fitting with JB bore paste and oil took care of it.

It was during reassembly that it became apparent that the barrel would need fitting because the gun would not go into battery due to the hood being too long. Hand filing and repeated checks until the barrel engaged the upper lugs. It turned out that the barrel would engage enough that it didn’t need further fitting. A check with dummy rounds proved the engagement further by showing the firing pin was striking the primer as we wanted.

Now that we have a gun that will go IMO battery and cycle most dummy rounds, the dust cover and slide needed clearance. The slide was riding hard on the frame and draw filing took care of that. It also created sharp edges with either get stoned or radiused as seen here.

Back to those dummy rounds...the breach face needed some clearance from .485. That was opened up with the same file you’d use to fit a barrel’s upper lugs and they were feeding much better. After all this clearance made, some cleaning and lubrication, the gun is back to being ready for shooter status.

Glad to see that old girl getting some new life. Nick isn’t sentimental guy, but I swear he shed a tear when he discovered that crack s few years ago.
