Yes, it’s cyclic isn’t it. The mag ban of the 90’s revived the single stack. History is about to repeat itself. I hope not...

I said "Colt pistols". I didn't specify their 1911s. Tony's is the most recent Colt that I've completed work on. The story is more fresh in my mind, even though I misunderstood a detail, and was a good place to start this thread. So, why Colts? When I look over my A&D book, more Colt pistols have been bought to me for service than any other mfg. The owners have a long history with them very much like your SGW that I worked on. Based on my experience, they have just as much fondness to their Colts as you do to your SGW. Hearing how much you value that pistol is just the same to me as when another customer brought in his Pre-Woodsman that is 98 years old and from what I recall, he's not the first in the family to own that pistol and he's won't be the last. Now, if I'd had a bevy of SGW pistols flowing through here, there'd be a thread about that. So far I've only had two come in.

This Colt Combat Commander was sought after by the current owner as the pistol he believed was previously issued to him. Unfortunately it turned out to not be the one and a previous owner did a hack job on the ejection port and magwell. I was charged with getting things lined up as much as possible.

That is my Combat Commander he fixed. Great job by the way, and much quicker than I anticipated. Big shout out to Dana. It's not so much the fact that it is a "Colt," but that one model is very close to the one I had picked up when I was at the 75th. It was also my first duty pistol at my first PD, and an off duty carry at my second and final PD. In a moment of stupidity, I sold it many years down the road, and wanted to get it back, leading to this current one. So, it was a personal connection kind of thing. I also have Les Baer and Kimber, but they don't cause me to recall a 'history' with it like this one if that makes sense. The rest of the story? A friend of mine thought he had found my original one, and bought it as he knew I'd buy it straight away. I also thought it was the one and bought it without hesitation, even with the flaws. When I got home and checked, I realized it wasn't the one, and was now really bummed at the hack work. Over the last couple of years I've thought about sending it off to get worked on, and Dana came into the picture. Local so no shipping costs, a no-brainer.

Yeah, it's definitely got some style factor points but, who wants a ugly pistol? When I look at a 1911 with a high port, it looks normal. It's fine. Nothing wrong with that at all to me. Now, when you lower the port, especially as low as I've seen some made, that flair really ties in the shape of the port. It's either that or you get a hard wall to rear and the port ends up just looking like box-shaped window. I'd rather put some flair on it. Bob and I had a brief chat about that video when I was talking with him about cutting flairs. He said to me, "Don't ever settle for Wilson quality. You're better than that." I'd rather not have a spike in business due to infringements on our rights though. Tony, thanks for the correction today.

Thanks for that Dana, and i actually requested the thread to be cleaned up to keep it on track with the work you did for Tony. My question really didn't have anything to do with my SGW, it was broader than that. What made me think 1911's was you stated "Pistol". A "Pistol" is a semi Automatic Hand gun as defined by the ATF. A Revolver is another type of hand gun, just technically not a "Pistol" in the proper sense. I digress though, and nice work on the Colt commander. Reminds me of you cleaning up some sloppy work on my SGW.

A customer brought in his Colt MKIV. Someone that was previously in possession of it decided to bugger up the feed ramp and throat. Previously in possession of = criminals. The gun was stolen and 13 years later recovered then returned to him. #nailedit Machine the feed ramp and re-contour the barrel throat. Then polish it.
