Gotta wait for friends to send me pics. I haven't really gotten any yet.
The new power steering pump took a shit.
Didn't make for a fun trip back from the rocks

I passed ya on 410 in Greenwater today. I was wondering how it went?

Went really good until the ps pump went.

Do you think it was just a lemon pump, or some other problem?

Possible that pump doesn't have the volume to support the steering box and the assist ram but I won't really know until I try another one.

Good observation.

Could be possible the pump would actually be adequate if it had a smaller pulley.

But it's more logical to just put a larger pump on, instead of farting around with pulley and belt sizes only to find the pump never would have adequate capacity.

Well, unless you have a smaller pulley laying around. Then it's a free experiment. LOL

And I'm betting that you've already thought of all that.

I'm going to run the next one for a bit on easy stuff, then modify it for better volume and see what happens.

Found some stuff online that should cure my steering issue for about 400 bucks. Not bad.

The silver rig is another one I built/helped build
That one's a 7mge sura motor rebuilt properly when shaved head and block, metal head gasket, 75 lbs on the bolts, etc.

So... Update

Image

Seems my ps issue wasn't the pump. I put the high volume/pressure pump in it, longer belt, filter etc.... Still no assist.
I was a little unsure at the time, it felt funny. Not low assist funny, but.....notchy. Weird.
Well.....

So. Many years ago I had gotten a trail gear ported pump for ram assist. Well the second trip out it started leaking like a seive. I replaced it with a used box and forgot about it. Well.... Enter bad box.
So I'll take this leaker apart and put seals in it right?
Clean it up a little, take the sector shaft out....

So after replacing the box.... Still no assist.
So I removed the ram.....

Image

So I put a new trail gear ram on it. New bracket on the steering arm. Etc. So now it's got assist.
Then I blew the rear end. Oops.
Image

So the guy I got the rig from still had the welded Tacoma diff so I stuck that in.

I'm on the hunt for a Dana 60 now but trying to get the people I'm interested in buying stuff from to reply to me is proving difficult.

Jesus Rix you are really throwing money at that thing. Is that just part of the sport?

Well he gave me the other rear end.
But yes.... It's not cheap. Just about anything that involves beating the hell out of a vehicle is going to get spendy.
