Thinking about getting one to make things for around the house and in the reloading room. I have purchased stuff for my reloading from ebay etc and it always seems a hair off and ends up being a waste of $. I figure if it is going to take tweaking I might as well do it myself!

I was thinking about an Anet A8, but the Ender 3 seems to be the king of the budget units now. Little more $, but better unit it seems based on little research I have done. Def looking to stay lower end and budget unit.

Curious if any of the rest of you have 3D printers and have any recommendations, tips, tricks you could share?

Yup, I have a monoprice maker select v2, although if I was in the market now I'd go for the Ender.

Don't get an Anet, they're cheap but not a good value.

Get a good printer, set it up, and print some guns.

I have a Prusa MK2s, current model is the MK3

I love it. It has consistently been reviewed as outperforming it’s class and comparing favorably with printers far more expensive.

Prusa is developing the SLIC3R utility and has made it waaay better than the industry to where it very well competes with the paid programs.

There is a very lively Facebook discussion group with plenty of support.

Prusa’s chat support is amazing, and their warranty support has been outstanding.

If I were to do it again I would buy Prusa all over.

This is something I should have mentioned as well. Although the Ender appears to be the best bargain printer, the Prusa truly is the best value you can get (despite being 2x+ the cost of the ender). If you have the spare cash for the Prusa, it's worth getting.

Thanks for the info guys. Ender 3 is pushing my limit for getting a printer. I was going A8 but too many stories of them burning and the Ender is well regarded with lot of info on forums etc.

I bought the E3 a little over a month ago. Very happy with it thus far.

So I actually went with the Ender 3X. I considered the Pro, but heard some not stellar reviews on their magnetic bed, an everyone said to upgrade any printer to glass bed which the X comes with.

I have had the Ender 3 for 2 weeks now. The rabbit hole is deep with these things. I bought it to make stuff for my reloading press and have done nothing but upgrades and mods for the printer so far! Well I made one thing for my Dillon, a Primer system shut off.

Other than that is has been enjoyable hobby getting to know the printer and doing upgrades. Currently in the middle of a full enclosure build and also moving all the electronics off the printer and into an external control module. Module will house power supply, control knob/LCD, the main ECU, a Raspberry Pi and relay bank so the Pi can control power to the printer in case of overheat or other issues. I already have Pi controlling the base printing functions for the printer, uploading files, running them and I can stop a print, I even had a few add-ons running that will alert me to temp problems or is a print has failed and is producing spaghetti.

Right now I cannot cut power to the entire package, that will get setup this week.

I’m giving this a wide berth. I don’t need any more rabbit holes.

Oh, it is a MASSIVE rabbit hole. Took me at least 8 months before I started seeing the light.

Less of a rabbit hole and more of a mineshaft honestly. Better get your Spelunking helmet and climbing gear or you will not find your way out.

Compared to the prints I have seen from others I ended up with a good unit, it is printing cleanly right out of the box, I just need to dial a few things in more to get dimensions coming out properly on a few fitted pieces.

I will tell you filament can make a big difference, they are not all created equal, and even ones that are roughly the same price can perform differently.
