Looking for insight on both of these little routers. Especially those that have experience with either (or both!) cutting a range of materials like wood, plastics, aluminum. Durability, performance, spindle RPM control, etc. Also, with dust collection adapters, how well do they actually work with dust AND chip (any/all materials) evacuation.

Some of the pros and cons that I've read are:

DeWalt
PROS:
3-year warranty
LEDs (but, are they actually useful?)

CONS:
16,000 RPM minimum
Slightly more expensive than the Makita

Makita
PROS:
10,000 minimum RPM (and up to 30k max)
Slightly less expensive than the DeWalt

CONS:
1-year warranty
No LEDs

What say you all?

You're going to make us hunt down the products? I assume you have the links you found when looking.

Also: what are you doing? trimming laminate? making drawers and furniture?

The "rack and pinion" adjustment seems easier than turning the body of the router to adjust depth.

I have the Dewalt and like it. I have limited time with it though. I bought it to do a few 80% lowers and have used it for a couple small wood projects. I have the standard base, no experience with the plunge base

The LEDs do actually work. Which is good because the standard base lets in little outside light since it's only open on the one side

There's a dust collector that can be added for sucking chips out. If I used it more I would probably buy it. It looks like the Makita has one too but the hose routing is different. Not sure which would work better. I kinda like how the Dewalt goes straight up so there's less clearance issues

The depth adjustment is better than the rack and pinion IMHO. The black ring gets turned to adjust it, not the whole body. There's a guage marked in 1/64th increments. Easy to trim off a RCH

Bit changes are easy with one wrench. There's a button on the side to lock the spindle. It gets covered up when the base it attached so there's no danger of hitting it while in use

Really both of those routers are good routers. The speed thing might make a bigger difference to you than it does to me. I don't do much fine woodworking

I have the Dewalt 611 as well. Havent used it a ton but have used it and its worked just fine. I bought the kit with the plunge base. Plunge base is nice to have for somethings but if mostly doing edges of stuff i wouldnt worry about it.

I have the dust collector as well. It works fine. Ive only used it with wood and it keeps the dust down quite well. Depends if doing edge work or like slots. As for the "straight up" vs "horizontal" hose connections...ive used both (dewalt one and my bosch router has the horizontal style connection) and prefer the horizontal. But i have the vacuum on the floor generally so its just less stress from the hose being bent at a tighter radius.

not sure how much you plan to use it but if its not to much....maybe check out a battery router from whatever brand battery system you run. Bit nicer than just having to run corded stuff for small projects.

Thanks for your feedback on your experiences with the DeWalt, guys.
If anyone else has experience with either the Makita or DeWalt, I'm all ears.

I have the Makita router, it was a gift from my son-in-law and daughter for routing 80% lowers.
I did the research on the best routers for the 5D tactical jig and I wanted the Dewalt which was $30 more but they decided to get me the Makita instead, it works for what it is but I would much rather had the Dewalt.

I'm a woodworker and went with the Bosch plunge router and the Bosch table. Awesome, versatile combo
