I did my own using a propane burner. The local gold place has the tester so what I smelted just had to fit in the cup.

Gold refining is a pretty broad spectrum. It depends what material you are needing refined and how much you have. Also be aware that a lot of material is easier to sell in its original form. Lots of people think they will get a better price if it is "Pure"-Not always true. If you have a bunch of scrap jewelry and refine it into a 24K button you will likely get a little under spot when you sell it. Consider what it costs to do the work and dispose of the waste you could end up at a loss. Most scrap dealers don't test the purity accurately anyway- they pay on the low side of a range. If you just want it for your personal interest that's different. Some material is easy enough you could do it yourself and save a refining toll. Some is downright dangerous. Without knowing what you have its hard to recommend anything. I don't do it anymore but I may know someone who might.

refine as in remove the crap so its closer to 24kt instead of 10kt or do you mean smelting as in removing gold from another material??

So, we have some gold crowns from Laura's aunt that she replaced with dentures when she was alive.
How do I extract the gold from these teeth?

I always work with Doral Refining for gold scrap. They’ll take the teeth and everything. Give you full value. I’ll get you more info if you’re interested.
