I started by ripping off 15 layers of 5/8 mdf, and than dropping one sheet of 3/4 ply, topped by a sheet of laminate. (2 layers of original 3/4 ply still remaining) Also rebuilt the legs on one side. This sucker must have weighed 1200 lbs. Everytime I stepped up on it, she'd give a wobble. Now we're back to a perfectly level surface, and rock solid again. And..light enough for two guys to pick up and move easily.

I chose white instead of black for two reasons. First off, the black reminds me of the stink of formaldehyde from freshman biology. More importantly, I can do dry erase or pencil layouts on white.

While I was at it....I also built a tool shelf on my rolling steps, re-ran my air hose to hang from the ceiling, and installed a retracting power cord reel. I must trip over lines or cords a bazillion times a day. The next step will be a retracting air line, but those suckers are spendy! $200 for the cheapest commercial model. The coil line will do for a couple more months.

I'm so pleased with the results. I can't wait to hose this top down with lami-lube, and be able to spin my projects without dragging.

Have you met Jeremy? He's only about 4' 8".

Kinda rude to bring it up . . . . :facepalm2:

I build cabinets on it, so the face of the box averages 12-48" above the table surface. I stand on the ground to build the boxes, and frequently step up on the table for face frame installations and sanding/interior work. Refrigerator boxes take up the whole table, which is what the steps are for. I also use them in the punch out process for installing doors and so forth once the boxes are complete.

Got these at harbor fright, and installed the hand crank under one end of my table. Now I've got a 50' retractable line from the ceiling, and a spare 50' booster to yank out when necessary.

FINALLY...nothing left to trip on but my own feet.
