So yesterday I decide to change the front brakes on the wife's car. So I head into my shed and gather the tools I'll need for the job. I couldn't find the bar for my floor jack so I decide to just use the scissor jack that comes with the car and only do one side at a time. So I lift the car up and am sitting o the ground double checkin my tools. I'm just about to get up to grab a round of wood to slide under the car for support. When all of a sudden on the corner of my eye I see the jack give out and the car come crashing down. The rotor landed directly on the top of my foot pinning me under it. I instantly start yelling in extreme pain. My wife and had had just left for her parents so I'm home alone. Somehow I manage to grab my phone and call 911. I hang up with them and continue yelling for help. I live in rural Snohomish so I have two neighbors with at least 1 acre between us. A few minutes go by and I'm starting to go into shock. Finally my farthest neighbor steps outside and hears my frantic calls for help. He runs over and starts freaking out too. He manages to find the jack under the car and starts lifting it back up. He pulls me out from under just has the medics show up. I got one dose of morphine in the meat wagon and 4 more at the ER. The doctor could physically feel multiple breaks. X-rays only could show one due to swelling. So now I'm at home, leg up and in a cast eating percocets like they're candy. Will find out this week after swelling goes down if I need surgery.

I was pinned under the 3,794lb car for 6-8 minutes.

Glad you are in mostly one piece man. I've seen several people seriously hurt and 2 people killed by cars falling on them.... ALWAYS use jackstands ALWAYS! They can save your life.

I was going to use the round piece of wood. It's tall enough and I use it all the time. The car must've been up for maybe two minutes.

Holy shit man you are damn lucky. Glad you escaped with broken bones but why in the hell did you not have the wheels chocked & the emergency brake on? Valuable lesson to be learned here.

Jackstands.... They are designed to hold them up and in place.... Is that what your round piece of wood was made for? Use the right tool for the job? I preach safety when it comes to that stuff just as I would firearms, or using a grinder. Use the right tool, and use the right safety equipment for the job at hand. I only have one pair of eyes, ears, 10 fingers, 10 toes.... And I'd like to keep everything intact

Glad to hear you're mostly in one piece, and sorry you're in such pain. Been there before myself, with an uncastable foot because of the swelling. I hope you're on the mend quickly, and up & around soon.

So many "why's" have gone through my mind. I attempted to cut a corner on something I've done 100's of times. I'm learning the hard way from my mistake.

You are lucky. My neighbor had a car drop on him but he was able to push it off. We have no idea how but he did it.

Keep an eye out for compartmentalization(un even swelling ). Can be a serious issue with crushing wounds. I can't flip folks off with My left hand due to a crushing wound to my left hand and tissue and ligament damage due to compartmentalization..

And I'll be the first to say..."You are one Lucky dumbass"!!! :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

We are aware of compartmentlozation and are staying on top of things.

Wow, very lucky. Hopefully everything heals up as close to normal as possible. I have seen some pretty gnarly injuries in my line of work, but nothing with that sort of helplessness. That really had to be scary. Sucks man.
