copper about just as hard to do heres some pic I did this about 2 yrs ago the vase actually holds water but you can see in the back, burned a hole in it and lots of filler too. need to try and finish this. the other is an old lantern. some of it tig weld and solder, rivets, just stick a good size candle in the middle and you got an old timers light.

I have used a strip of copper as a backing plate to prevent burn through when welding mild steel. I don't know why one could not use mild steel as a backing plate when doing copper.
With Aluminum, I use a cobalt blue lens and if you see the puddle, you are too late.

If your puddle is hot enough to be seen through the lens, you have already burnt though.

foil.... not shure thats possible

I've heard it can be done if you take a sheet of foil, fold the edges back on themselves several time in order to form a thick "rib". Then bend the rib up at 90 degrees to the main sheet. Put two sheets with these formed ribs together, rib to rib, and then weld the top of the ribs together. I've only had the process described to me. When it comes to welding, if it isn't 1/4" thick steel and looks don't matter, I have someone else do it.

Wow. Nice example of a Union worker weld. Must have been done on overtime, or it wouldn't look all that good. Heh heh heh.

The nut on the threaded end on the bottom is welded to the hitch and to the ball screw also. Those are quality welds, and the one on top was done as a joke for when my neighbor wanted to borrow the hitch. He claimed to be a certified weldor and just looked at it and said "It'll do"

Tomy Salami said once: if you want to find a natural welder, look for a high school dropout who mastered the use of a caulking gun.

"Either you're good with a welder, or you're good with a grinder."

Now try welding razor blades together (edge side), and foil CAN be welded, as can the foil / paper gum wrapper.....but I've yet to see someone do it.

I taught my kids to MIG and we made a goth-style iron cross for my Rotty's grave when he died. Youngest was 8 I think at the time. Freakin gun was as big as she was. We did the Oil / Japan Dryer black treatment to it, turned out nice! I'd post a pic but I don't think anyone would care.
