So Mr PMB said I should post some photos of my newest hobby of forging. I have been doing this for a few months now, but was interested in it since getting into the forged in fire show, maybe a year or more. I took 2 local classes and got hooked. Getting a forge going was the hardest part. Part of that was deciding gas vs coal, and also where I wanted to set up a work area, and then just building it. I scored a deal on a beat up anvil from the internet and my bosses also gave me a small steel anvil. I try to get a couple hours in on the weekends. Lately I've been on a bottle opener kick. Here are some photos. Still pretty much a novice, but I'm improving. Eventually I want to cash in the retirement to get a real anvil, but they are expensive and most people with used ones want too much. Let me know if you have any questions....I think I can google you an answer. ........

Things I made in my first 2 classes....

Square punch cleaned up from what I started in class....

I plan on building a new forge this winter... be prepared for a brain picking session.

The anvil scarcity was my biggest pet peeve about hobby blacksmithing... Freaking insane how these rusty abused beat to hell chunks of scrap iron morphed into collectable icons from Mount Olympus, forged on by Hephaestus himself! Zeuss almighty, to take an ancient diety's name in vain.

You're modest. These look awesome. Remember the door handle that I welded up from a railroad spike? Think how much better (and better looking) your mystery chunk of twisted steel is than that.

Yeah, gimme some of that. I still like the idea of forging with coal, but have to admit that new technology is superior.

You have 75 days till Christmas....thinking a PIF bottle opener with wagu logo raffle?

Or you could build us all one.

Very Nice work. :thumbsup2: Have you tried sand cast bronze/brass yet?

I'm sure you watched the video of the BP rifle build by the Colonial smith that was posted a few months ago in Gen Firearm Discussion.

That freaken amazes me.

The twisty wrought-iron vampire slayer is pretty cool.

I could see a pair of them made into andirons.

Bought the wife a forge a couple years ago. I've tinkered with it a little. No idea what I'm doing. I need instruction.

Worked on a few things this weekend.

First, like a baboon with a welding torch, I made my first bending Jig. I also dressed up a cheap china made 3lb sledge hammer to have a rounding face.

Then yesterday I made an attempt to make a cube twist, ended up looking more like a pile of bricks from a collapsed wall.
