In Visalia CA, where I spent some time as a young man, downtown there is an abundance of Carob trees; I was told that they were the source of the unusual and distinct smell akin to ... semen.
I found that out as some friends of mine and I were walking to the car after dinner one spring evening... I noticed the distinct smell and asked about it. He told me it was the carob trees. Buddy turns to his wife and asks: "That smells familiar... Honey what's that smell like?"
She blushed, smiled, slapped him on the shoulder and said: "You know!"

There's nothing worse than fishing when the cotton woods are blooming! That miserable cotton all over the lake getting in your eyelets and stuck on your line! Ugh!

The first time the light shock hits through the wet gloves it always kind of puts some spring into the step. It's only funny once though, so I went through 4 sets of gloves trying to keep my hands dry.
Nice spring day... The birds were noisy... The Cottonwood trees waft their heavenly scent this time of year. The blossoms are already on the fruit trees. Haven't seen a Mason or Leafcutter bee yet. Find some heavy rubber dishwashing gloves and wear them under the welding gloves. Works really well.

I'd probably use cheap very thin cotton liners under the rubber dishwashing gloves.

Started refinishing the hardwood floors Sunday after noon. 7 hrs yesterday, and first coat on. Lessons learned; The drum sander that I did NOT rent actually strips the first 1/16 of a inched of wood off hardwood. I felt I didn't need this. I went with the vibration type sander. While this did a decent enough job, there were still spots that should have been eradicated with a drum-style sander. I used a smaller mouse sander for the corners.

If that’s what “retirement” looks like, I don’t want any part of it!

But this is the last major project. Then I can declare "DONE!" Well, except for that damn small leak that popped up in the laundry room wall.

First thing I did was to clean and tighten all connections, including pulling all fuses that could have caused a no-crank, and even wiped down the blades on the fuses. The intermittent no-crank was caused by a broken solenoid actuator wire that runs close to the exhaust manifold on the 6.5. All fixed now.

Tore out the old cast iron waste line today. The previous owner had replaced the part going from the street to just outside the house with PVC. Then he used a fernco to attach the PVC to an ABS clean out. Then another fernco to connect to the cast iron. It wasn’t a straight shot so the ferncos were torqued to get everything to work. Not the best way to do it The green PVC pipe is sewer pipe. It is thinner and doesn’t use the same fittings as regular PVC. Connecting PVC to ABS requires either a special glue or a mechanical fernco type connector. I didn't use a mechanical fernco type connector because 1) I don’t like putting those underground and 2) because of the different outer diameters it gets weird with collars and adapters What I ended up using is a PVC 4” sewer to 4” DWV connector. PVC primer and glue for the PVC joint, special ABS to PVC green glue to joint the coupler to the cleanout, then ABS glue for everything from there. Added a 22.5 joint to make everything line up like it should. A straight shot would be preferable but I’m not going to dig up my yard just for that

Finished a work bench and added a gun rest for it for tinkering in garage. Not the best bench but for $35 worth of material for an 8x4 bench I’ll take it

Washing machine wouldn’t drain. Took it apart and found that the pump motor took a shit. Pulled it out and ordered up a replacement from amazon that should be here tomorrow.
