Anyone have suggestions where I can purchase either hydraulic assisted pistons or powered hydraulics for a trap door that will be approx 6 ft long by 3 ft wide?
Here is sort of what I am talking about.

Contact gate and door opener companies.
Subscribed. Needs a rug.

Automotive lift gate struts would work as well. Just need to match up the weight up the floor panel with that of a popular SUV lift gate. Bonus points, use the new power assisted lift gate in the newer style Tahoe's and have it open and close at the push of a button.

Powered liftgate struts are available and run on 12v, assuming backup power is an important consideration. Hydraulic isn't needed unless the door is really heavy. A hydraulic system would also require more maintenance, if that's a concern.

If you want it powered, forget about hydraulics and go full electric with ability to bypass, disengage drive. Look for something like a linear screw drive motor, electric door opener or electrical magnetic push/pull. Hell, you could probably find an electric door opener used, think disabled person entry doors to businesses. With those, you can use a key pad to open/lock/unlock too, real simple shit.

Buddy of mine in N Seattle put in a pneumatic cylinder for his horizontal cellar door. Picked up a small compressor at a thrift store for $20 We compared hydraulic vs pneumatic and determined pneumatic was the way to go. He used that thing until he moved out 8 years later. Don't think it required any repairs or maintenance. And it opened his cellar door in less than a second. Hahjaha Controlled with a cylindrical key lock that operated a solenoid. 3 positions: Off, Open, and motion sensor. Now that scared the mailman. Hahaha

Boeing Surplus. Hahaha' When I worked at this computer maintenance company in Kirkland, we used to take new employees down to Boeing Surplus to grab a desk and chair. Desks were $10-20, chairs were usually a little more. They bitched if you cherry picked and swapped out the drawers.

I still have Cleco clamps, several Columbian vises, tables, drill bits and other random stuff from there.

https://www.bilco.com/category1326/For_ ... d_FlooringAre you planning on using that space for earthquake/disasters? The reason I ask is to plan debris landing on top and so you will need something that will be able to open with several tons of weight and/or plan for opening without power.
