How does the heater fan in in a 2002 Silverado regulate fan speed? Resister block, separate windings, or voltage regulator? Mine stopped working on high, and now only works from 1-4. I doubt it's a voltage regulator so guess I need either a new fan motor or resistor block. Thanks in advance.

Is your system manual control or automatic temperature control?

Resistor block....OEM 47 bucks
Aftermarket are ok though
Sometimes the harness gets baked at the resistor....crispy/bad connection.
Just checked my parts supplier...they make a harness/resistor kit...
Dorman Part # 973-409

Typically it blowing out the resistor block is that the fan is bad. Takes more juice than it should to do the speeds and blows the block.
Can replace the resistor block. More than likely will go out again soon. So fan will be next. It’s a 40 buck gamble for you. I’d do both.

Mine does the same exact thing and I still have to fix it. I've been told the the highest speed is usually a problem with the switch not the resistor because the highest speed isn't ran through a resistor but directly powers the blower fan.

This is just the beginning of stupid little breakdowns Not everyone has that option. Replacing mine with a newer equivalent would cost at least 3 times what I paid for my current truck.
