I would modify that Manley set up a bit more and add a secondary chain on each side. You might as well make oit so you can use it and not have legal problems if you want to do a private tow.

Great work. I appreciate the way you lay things out and adjust on the fly when inevitable "stuff" pops up. I really look forward to these updates .

That’s a good thought! haven’t got this far yet, but the old time tow trucks had a draw bar setup that was a rigid connection between the tow truck and the disabled car. That draw bar clamped around the front axle of the disabled car with a couple of chains. The other end connected to the tow truck. This kept the disabled car from running into the tow truck during braking. The tow truck hook actually attached to this draw bar, and then lifted the draw bar and disabled car up together One version of a draw bar looked like this Here is a different design I haven’t designed my version yet, so stay tuned!

The boom extension houses 2 of the 3 pulleys. It is comprised of horizontal reaches, angled reaches and pulley plates. It is the triangular assembly at the end of the main boom in the pic below The pulley plates were cut from a 2’ x 2’ piece of half-inch plate I scored on offerup for $30. A buddy did the rough cut for me on his plasma cutter. Man, I got to get one of those! Here are the as-cut pieces The edges needed a lot of grinding. Went at it with the bench grinder and angle grinder until I had them smoothed out Next job was the horizontal reaches. I had to cut down my huge pile of 3 x 5 angle to get a couple of pieces 3 x 3. The offcuts I used for the angled reaches After match drilling the left and right sides of plates and reaches, here is what I had Then it was time for assembly And hanging it on the main boom Here is where I am today. Doesn’t seem like much progress, but that boom extension took a few days to build. Lots of cutting, grinding and drilling. Plus I’m working retired guy hours, which means some days I say to hell with it and do something else. But I have plenty of time to get this job done. Next up is the boom truss assembly

Shit just got serious.
Good work............the allthread would be my only concern but sounds like you are factoring it.

The only piece of load-bearing all-thread is at the main boom pivot. At that location, I will bolt a heavy chunk of angle iron to handle the downforce. This thing is way over-designed and over-built for its intended use. It’s what we engineers do.

It is going to look good and work but where you will get into trouble is the single cable or come along down to the draw bar. For Safety a second chain will be required to go down from the boom and through the drawbar loop. I would weld a hook on each side of the boom so when lifted I could run a chain through the drawbar loop and then hook it in the welded hooks on the boom.
Even in the 90s there were guys running around with these single cable wreckers doing private tows.
