You just move to Lewis county? Where abouts? Our company electrician lives in Chehalis.

Not an electrician, just an electrical engineer who did some remodels.
Can run 220 over the same wires to the remote location as the 110 you currently have as long as current capacity doesn't go up much.
Need a ground rod, you probably already have one. And a separate outlet.
Sounds like a simple job.
As long as your not trying to do 3 phase. Haha

I'm not too comfortable with house current but as far as I understand it's fairly simple. I just need a plug for a car lift that's going to be installed soon.
So no I don't think anything along the lines of 3 phase etc.

It all depends on what gauge wire they ran into the shop panel. If you want to be legal you will have to get an electrical permit from L&I. You can still do the work yourself if you are comfortable with it. You might think about what else you want to power in the shop in the future.

not an electrician, but been in the electrical business for 15 years

You say you have an existing panel in the garage, look to see if there is room for a 2-pole breaker and what brand/style it is. This is important as manufactures have changed their breaker styles over the years and replacement breakers for the older designs can be pricy

You will need to find out what amp load the lift needs, then buy the two pole breaker. Usually the breaker will have the number of poles and the amp rating in the part number. For instance the one I am running for the pool pump is a Cutler Hammer 2 pole 20 A, part # is CH220.

How/where to install the wire is a whole different set of problems.....

This. I recently installed a 220 V outlet in my garage. Ran ridgid metallic conduit with THNN wire from breaker box to outlet location. It’s an easy job. Lots of YouTube videos on it. If your breaker box is a sub-panel, be sure to run your neutral and ground wires to their separate bus bars. If it is the main panel, you can run neutral and ground to the same bus bar.

You are good to go! Next step is to figure out how many amps your lift draws. That should be in the manufacturers info. That will tell you what gauge wiring you will need and what breaker to buy. Be sure to buy a breaker of the same brand as your panel. Will you be wiring directly to the lift, or wiring in an outlet for the lift to plug into?

It would be an outlet that the lift plugs into.
