I got a ticket in Fife for making a free right on red when the left lane (traffic coming from my right) had control of the intersection, meaning that there was no danger in making the free right turn.

I could have fought this ticket three ways:

1. claim I wasn't the driver, the car was registered in the name of my company, my name was no where attached to the car.

2. claim that the law cited on the ticket does not outline the definition of the infraction nor the penalty (the RCW referenced was the law that allowed the use of red light cameras and did not cite the law about stopping at a red light). If you get a ticket, look into this, they are required by law to inform you ON THE TICKET what law you broke.

3. argue that I was in a dedicated right turn lane and under the circumstances should have had a green arrow, not requiring a stop.

I chose option #3, case dismissed

DING DING DING DING MOTHERFUCKING DING!

I for one am fucking tired of all the shitheads driving distracted, or just being in too god dam much of a rush that they run a light. I have had more close calls the last few months than that last 20yrs. One just the am that had I not noticed headlights approaching and decided to pause on my already green light he would have killed me. Easily 10 over the limit, never touched brakes and came thru the light full tilt. I am NOT a fan of more Govt oversight or being watched, but the program we have now on the roads is NOT working because Police on patrol are so low that you never see them, thus people just drive however they want. They have no concern about getting a ticket because the chances of getting a ticket are astronimically low when you look at time/miles on rd vs seeing a cruiser. No cop around, I will just do 45 in a 25, roll this stop sign surrounded by parked cars at 20mph, cruise thru this red light, etc... About that time a kid runs after a ball into the road, or the crossing traffic that is at legal speed and never had to slow down for a red light is right there in front of you...

As for rear end accidents, ohh well IDGAF, maybe two birds with one stone actually. The red light running is stopped and the second car learns an expensive lesson about not tailgating. Best part is nobody gets killed by being Tboned.

In totally unrelated news, coincidentally the 6 intersections have had the time between lights cut by 80%.

From green.....yellow...... red....

To

Gree.yello.red....

It's so easy NOT to get nailed by a Red light camera... Don't enter the intersection when the light is red.
I'm retired so I'm never in a hurry but even when I worked I would always leave early enough to not be late.
Too many people drive like assholes and I love watching the "FLASH" at intersections that are clearly marked
"CAMERA"
Life is too short folks, leave 5 minutes earlier and don't be a dick on the roads :thumbsup2:

When it starts getting hard to raise taxes they look for other ways to dip into you pocket. I heard that Lynwood rakes in over a million a year on those cams.

Two intersections I can think of:
End of Hwy 18 by Costco and 320th & Pac Hwy.
Both of those are entertaining because the flashes are going off like strobes at a New Years party.

It was getting so bad people complained that half the Lynnwood police department spend their days reviewing cam footage.
Everytime you beat a cam ticket, the city loses money.
They still have to give the cam contractor half of the fines face value, whether the city collects it or not.
Some cities quit the cams, losing money on the red light violations as everyone was beating them.

It is very easy to get a red light camera ticket thrown out. By law, the camera cannot photograph your face. So, theoretically, if you get a ticket in the mail, you could simply claim that although you own the car, you were not driving it at the time of the infraction. Since that cannot be disproven, you go scot free. Every time.

Even so, I will need to take a day off work to go to the court, and then I would lose more than $136.
Those mfckrs know how to calculate.

No court appearance needed, at least in Lacey. I Goo gled up beat traffic cam tickets.... I printed out the appropriate form, filled it out stating that I was not driving at that time & send it in. 3 weeks later I received a letter of notice that my ticket was dropped.

in the past, you could appeal by mail.

You can do the whole thing by mail. Cities around here subcontract the process to out of state companies, typically in AZ. It is just a revenue stream for local cities

It has zero FUKs given to safety, LAZY, greedy bassturds!!!

Study after study shows accidents increase at intersections with red light cameras.

Study after study has shown that in most cases, the time between a yellow and red has been shortened, and in some cases, shortened below what the law allows, to increase ticket generation.

Study after study has shown that both longer yellow lights and longer delays between red and opposing green, decrease accidents..
But, again, as stated, the usually decrease those in intersections with a camera.

Has nothing to do with safety, and everything to do with revenue generation.

That’s exactly what Lacey did, timed it down to the millisecond with info from their vendor, they know how to get the infractions!!!
It’s got nothing to do with safety, it’s a revenue generator!!!

back in 2009(?) they voted to remove the cameras. Lacey went to court and sued the people, and won.

They claimed that since it was a 'public safety issue', the people couldn't vote on it.

So the council passed an emergency resolution to keep the cameras up... and they've been up since...

utter bullshit.

Uh, the City of Lacey hasn't had red light cams for a while....like over 5 years, maybe more like 8.

How hard is it to just follow the rules of the road?

Rhetorical question.
