One quibble: the Chief's Special was introduced in 1950 but wasn't given a model number until 1957.

Was the "iconic" smoke stack used as a shot-tower? Or just for dispersing forge gas? (can they be used as both? )

I don't think Ithaca Guns ever made lead shot, just the guns
