Well, here I am...in the final stages of selecting the parts for my .308 AR rifle.
I was going to go with an 18" Criterion Hybrid chrome lined barrel--because I want nice long barrel life and reasonable accuracy.
However, I have read a bunch of really nice things about barrels treated with the QPQ salt bath nitride process. For those who are not familiar with this treatment, I guarantee you've seen it before. It's known as Melonite, Melonite/QPQ--and by its most common name, Tenifer. Yes, the same treatment used on Glock pistols.
Can any one share their experiences with rifle barrels treated with this? I'm specifically looking for:
Expected barrel life Accuracy potential Cleaning and maintenance
Any information is helpful. Thanks!

Melonite barrels are way better than chrome lined barrels for a bunch of reasons such as better accuracy, longer life, & corrosion resistance.

PSA had 16" mid length melonite kits for $399 last year. http://palmettostatearmory.com/ar-15-05/rifle-kits.htmlMentioned PSA to my sister in SC, said "They're right by my house. That's where everyone here goes to take gun safety classes."

I personally like the Melonite/QPQ. I have a couple of them and I will not be changing. Cleans really easy, like a non-stick pan. No build up on the bore dimension like chrome. I have not personally found anything I don't about it. IMHO
