Hey guys. Im brand new to the forum and fairly new to shooting. Only been shooting for 3 years now, which is probably just a drop in the bucket for most of you. I know handguns pretty well. I built an AR, but other rifles are still a mystery to me. Just got my first shotgun. So thats where im at.
I am pretty sick of indoor ranges and like to go to the woods, but I am unclear about laws for shooting in the woods or where to find the info on it. Thanks guys! |

I would encourage you to check out a middle ground: Outdoor ranges. Indoor ranges are nice because they're out of the weather, and they're generally closer to home than outdoor ranges. Otherwise, they suck. A nice outdoor range lets you stretch your gun legs a little, and it's not as loud as an indoor range, and -- well -- you're OUTDOORS! Check out some of the range in our area (Cascade, Renton Fish & Game, Snoqualmie Valley Rifle Club, and others), and I think you'll like them. We'd all like to shoot "out in the woods" but sadly it's just not that practical for most of it. Shooting areas are pretty far from home if you live in the city, and they're often littered with garbage, and you wind up standing next to some pretty irresponsible (i.e., unsafe) shooters on a regular basis.
