Feature request: allow block/altering of main page header

Tue Sep 10, 2019 9:56 am

What I'd like to see is the ability to blank out or replace the main header on the page where it says "WaGuns", or like today when the 9/11 remembrance went up, the ability to put another graphic in it's place. Specifically in the
Code:
<div>logotop</div>
or
Code:
<td>logorow</td>
elements.

Why do I want to do this? At work I try to stay below radar with respect to my hobbies, especially guns since my company has a strict-ish policy against them. On occasion I'll get up with the WaGuns page up on one of my monitors, and walk out of my area for a meeting, lunch, or just heading home. I don't want a hoplophobe walking past my desk and call in the SWAT team (OK, exaggeration, but you know what I mean).

Yes, I know I can lock my workstation, but in practice rarely do (it's not really a thing at this company, where at MSFT, it was a big thing).

Is this possible? Much like when you allow us to turn off the xmas lights with a setting?

Toggle to a different screen?

Or blank desktop?

Wait . . . are you saying that you log into your account on WaGuns, then walk away from the computer in a public area?

Is this REALLY David who posted this thread?!

Not easily. What you can do is put an alternate photo in your browser cache that matches the logo file and extension, you can have it a black box, a pixel.. whatever.

That's not a bad idea. Or I can just delete the div completely so it doesn't show. Just did some experimenting with that idea, and I'm able to increase my real estate substantially by deleting elements.

Nevermind.

It's not really that public, and it's under key card control, it's just that I have a new manager literally over my shoulder (I can touch his chair from my chair with no effort). He's not my manager (yet, but suspect it's coming), but he manages two other guys in our "software quad". I don't know him, don't know his politics, just erring on the side of caution. I'm so used to just walking away with my computer unlocked that it's going to be easy to do so until I retrain myself to lock it. It does lock itself after 15 minutes, so the window of opportunity is relatively brief.

Well, I guess it's not that easy, everything comes back on a refresh or submittal, which I sort of expected. I'll figure something out.

If you can install ad block plus (and probably others) it will let you block individual elements from displaying in the page, and they stay hidden.

I've always been a fan of Alt-F4 when I leave my desk. Works for every website...
