It's a useful feature that has been underused since it's kind of buried. You can chose to turn off home page chat (and other things) by going to your profile, and selecting mChat on the left option menu. |

You can turn off the sound in the User Control Panel too. The chat will default to sound on each time you log in. Forcing it off via the control panel means you will NEVER hear it. |
