How many 3" barreled target revolvers are you aware of?
It's not a cheapo Charter Arms Bulldog that can barely handle the old 246gr LRN at 700fps. That 624 will shoot 255gr gas checks at 950fps at standard pressure. Or 180gr JHPs at 1100fps. The latter is somewhere between a .40S&W and 10mm from a 5" auto. The .44 Special isn't "weak" but, out of deference to the crappy Charter Arms guns and older (but otherwise well-made) Colt SAAs and S&Ws, most manufacturers load super weak. But I didn't buy that one because it's super useful. It's an uncommon Lew Horton distributor special from the mid '80s. The .44 Magnum version (629) is more or less the same except for a thicker barrel. I know this is going to sound really weird to you, but it's OK to own a gun that's not in the latest, most powerful whizz-bang caliber. As an example, if you piled up all the bear, moose, and elk taken with .30-30s, .44-40s, and even .32-20s...well, you'd have a really enormous stinky pile of animals. They ded...and it didn't take a 3,000 ft-lb M.E. ultra-mag to get them there. _________________ "Wherever you go, there you are." |
