A big +1 on the evaporust treatment.

Remove the grips CAREFULLY first. You don't want to crack them. Be VERY careful getting the screw out for the grips, as well.

First order of business is to SAFELY get that gun unloaded. Once this is accomplished, there are reverse-electroplating processes that will actually remove the rust safely from the gun.

Next, a complete disassembly. Look for replacement small parts from Gun Parts Corporation and Jack First.

As far as shooting it...low and slow is the key. After determining the caliber, you can probably make up some black powder loads using 3F black powder. Have a gunsmith look it over prior to dropping the hammer on a live cartridge.

Consider sending it out for nickel plating to make it nice and purty.

Some better pics..its got 3 left in it. If I can get the grips off I will. Or like some of you have said " just leave it" Maybe it belonged to some miner who was killed by injuns after he got two off. who knows

Hoppes (amongst other things) will dissolve the bullet (aka lead).
