The region has a wealth of natural resources that would free Russia from outside influences and in fact control many resources that independent eastern European countries need to survive, but that's long term for Russia to regain control of those regions...

I agree totally that whatever we let happen there will help decide China's short-term policy with regards to Tiawan and even their provocations toward Japan. Long term, China has to control Formosa for national pride if nothing else. And pay back Japan in spades for obvious reasons

Seeing as my new workplace has a giant target on it, I'd prefer that we not get involved. I foresee us pouring as many weapons into the country as possible and then sitting back and seeing what the result will be. We will probably be flying overhead gathering as much intel as possible and sharing it with Ukraine and the rest of NATO. Cause Russia to bleed itself of men and equipment and then "generously" offer to negotiate a cease fire and terms that will satisfy Russia but will hurt Ukraine.
