https://www.quora.com/Why-do-so-many-pe ... ve-shooterCops are required to go through "perishable skills" training periodically to maintain proper muscle memory, show proficiency, and reinforce agency policies. Is the average citizen ready to engage?

I've had a firearm pulled on me 5 times, fired at me twice during those engagements. And I'm not in even in law enforcement. (rolling eyes) None of those 5 times I was armed. I am now. And I train every week.
These days...I believe in Murphy's Anti-Law...if you're prepared, it will never happen.

Moreso than yesterday. Train everyday to be better than the day before. That's incrementalism I can endorse.

I shoot my carry gun very well, and I'm very comfortable drawing from my IWB, so I'd like to think I'm well-prepared. But I guess I won't know for sure unless it happens. Hopefully it never does.

Do you carry at least one tq/blowout kit and know how to use it? Do you carry a burner cellphone? (whatever one you use is evidence...) Do you have bail money/cc insurance/attorney on retainer? Do you carry and know how to use a flashlight? Is there defense ammo or fmjs in your carry gun? Got an axtra mag? Willing to bet your life that you'll be able to ID the badguy(s)? Are you ready to throw your carry gun on the ground when the good guys arrive? Have you practiced that interaction with LE (you are getting proned and cuffed, if you don't get shot - there won't be any discussion about your 2a rights and how you are a good guy) *Everything you say* can and will be used against you in a court of law, have you practiced what to say? Are you prepared to be the star of some worldwide internet viral video? If not, you may have some thinking/training/practicing yet to do before going kinetic in an active shooter incident.

First aid kit, don't currently but have just last week decided to. Finding the right small-ish kit to use. This is the one area of weakness. Bail money? I use a $80 annual self-defense shooting insurance which covers legal fees and bail. Flashlight? Yup. I carry quality defense hp factory ammo and often extra mag, depending. I can justify the ammo I use - it's not a hot home loaded wild cat caliber or cartridge. ID bad guys? Dunno. Hopefully they're the ones with extra leaking holes. Practiced LEO interaction and statements? I feel confident enough Burner phone? See zero need. I'm not a criminal. Internet video star? Well, I dress normal, look normal, act normal, no weird prison tats, no skulls on my pistols, no death wish or embarrassing clothing or verbiage, no crazy man beard. I also have a note in my wallet and at home for informing others of critical information, such as my two dogs who need attention, points of emergency contact, etc. in case I am unable to communicate. The only other thing I am looking to do is some concealable body armor. Years ago I wore a soft vest and I stopped doing it. I'm considering options, maybe starting the practice again. IF your believe causes you to carry a gun and first aid gear, you've accepted the idea you may be shot at in society. It's entirely consistent to wear a vest. I'm looking at options and weighing options.

Be realistic, and just say no. None of us are actually ready.

Prepare...preparation is good-BUT!!! Every situation is different and you will never know, what you will do, once you are in that situation. Being in many different situations myself ( robbed at gun point/knife point, shot at, shot, stabbed, shot at people, shot someone, beat by the police...) All the situations were different and my emotions were very different each time. This was all 30 years ago and I was a different person. I am not sure how I would handle any of these now...and I hope I never have to. Practice and Preparedness is a very good thing...and I need to do more of each

Never ready enough. Always cautious but never completely scared.
Sarcastic remark (clearly marked enough???): Our little concealed pistols will never be enough against a deadly weapon of war like the AR-15.

I guess the BG will know after I see him try and make the first move. I am always aware of my surroundings and know how to profile BG's.
