I still remember each time a firearm was pulled on me by a drunk aggressor, and I still have nightmares about it, but I've managed to control those nightmares by 'waking' myself up within the dream.

Pretty interesting interview right up until the ride fast take chances crap at the end.

Her story sounds similar to mine. Though obviously a different situation that occurred, the general bodily reaction, mindset, and everything after the fact sound identical. It's been very difficult seeking treatment because of the few who understand it and the effects. I definitely feel for her and wish her the best.

Interesting, I thought she was in the military.

Another ignorant law. Same with carrying in a bar. I can cross the Columbia River and carry a pistol but not in Washington. Just because it is a law in WA, doesn't mean it is reasonable. I have no issues with lane splitting.

There was an effort to repeal it a year or two ago if I recall. Until then it's still the law.

Cannot count the times I've seen bikers break off people's side view mirrors or side-swipe or collide with cars while trying to lane split. There are reasons its illegal.

I used to ride a bike in the late 80's. Even if I didn't have to I would not lane split, or not wear a FULL helmet. Here in OK seeing these people without helmets confuses me. Ask John Snaza about his helmet opinion. Seatbelts are required in every state. Even if it was not required I would. Why? I found out the hard way. Steering wheels are not very tasty.

Lane splitting or lane dancing? What I beleave she is reffering to is riding in either the left or right half of her lane. This is perfectly legal and I've ridden as such many times.
Lane Dancing or line dancing, is what we used to call riding on the line between lanes. Only fools do so, as it's a good way to get creamed.
If she had been doing so, her attacker never would have caught her.

Does she have any legal recourse from the dead guys family? He is the one who initiated the assault so shouldn't his family be liable for her medical bills?

Terms for the two can get quite blury for sure. I always heard lane splitting to mean riding the line and going between lanes/traffic. Pretty common in CA. I actually had a guy go by me a week ago here in WA doing it, it surprised me as I had not seen it in years.

Based on what I heard her say, she was riding on one side of her lane. That is very common and on a freeway the best place to ride imho, if for no other reason than simple laws of physics. Ever notice on cement surface freeways that the middle of the lanes is black? The center of freeway lanes is where all the grease and oil dripping off vehicles lands and gets pushed by other vehicles tires. Riding up on that just continuously puts that nasty debris on your tires so when you need to make a move you don't have the traction to do it. Been there done that. Plus being in the fast/HOV lane riding on the right side makes you more visible to the rest of the drivers on the freeway so someone does not speed up and try to come over into what they think is an open gap if you were riding on the left side.

It was an ugly situation all the way around and watching the rush to judgement and condemnation in numerous places was more than a bit disappointing. I am glad she was able to finally share how the events unfolded from her perspective. Time and details can blur in an event like this, I would still be interested to see the dashcam footage to confirm the info and add time/context to the overall encounter. Hearing her say she had to unzip to get to her weapon was interesting, given people claiming she rides around with her gun showing, and had flashed it at him by lifting her jacket.

I understand the difference between riding off-center in a lane and riding on the line between lanes and going between stopped/slow cars.

I also acknowledge that she was not lane splitting at the time however by the comments she and the interviewer made it was clear that they didn't know lane splitting was illegal in WA and the interviewer even stated he does it.

I agree, I was not trying to debate the legality of it, or that they had it incorrect.
