In the middle of last week at the DMV in Everett, when I was trying to get my "enhanced" DL.
I didn't have my SS card. They wanted the card.
I went to the SS office, and applied for a new card. The nice people at the SS office also, as a courtesy, (I didn't ask for this.), printed out TWO pages of information that they said should suffice at the DMV. They have done this before. It worked.
So, they said: "Your new card will be arriving in the mail. In the meantime, show this to the DMV, and it should work."
Not this time.
The man at the DMV called his supervisor, when presented the SS papers.
His supervisor asked me what the papers were.
I told her what the nice lady at the SS office had said, and that the papers were supposed to fulfill the requirement. Miz supervisor said... SS does NOT TELL US WHAT "WORKS". Either you have the exact thing that I tell you that you MUST have, or you don't get the enhanced DL.
I went ahead and went through the motions to get the regular DL, even though next year I HAVE to have the enhanced one, and I didn't want to go through all this, and pay all over again, next year. (Found out later, that I will only have to go back in with my current DL, and pay an extra 4 dollars a year, to get the enhanced one. I won't have to pay for the whole thing all over again.)
They punched a hole in my DL.
Then gave me a sheet of paper.
And they left me with this statement: "Your new DL will be arriving in the mail. In the meantime, if you are stopped, show this paper and your hole punched DL to the officer, and it should work".
I WISH I was kidding.....

State Patrol tells you...
“The DMV doesn’t tell them what the State Patrol needs... so her is you real paper tickets” (just joking)
Cascade of cluster fucks... got to love bureaucracy in action. At least they did away with “In triplicate”

I didn't even describe how the lady was pretty much yelling, and saying things like "We report to DHS, not social security! We don't listen to other government agencies tell us how to do things. Only DHS.
And she had to emphasize that "Department of Home Security" connection several times, like it made her some kind of federal sheriff or something...

Social Security Card W-2 Form with visible SSN SSA-1099 Form with visible SSN Non-SSA-1099 form with visible SSN Pay stub with visible SSN. Internet printouts ok. https://www.dol.wa.gov/driverslicense/edlproof.htmlNot sure what form they gave you at the SS office but if it was a SSA-1099 then they should have taken it.

Internet printouts ok. https://www.dol.wa.gov/driverslicense/edlproof.htmlNot sure what form they gave you at the SS office but if it was a SSA-1099 then they should have taken it. What they gave me was the standard receipt for having applied for the SS card. On SS letterhead.. With SS rubber stamp by the Everett Field Office manager. And a second printout. With every bit of the information required, including my full SS number. Plus my full name. My dad's full name. My mom's full maiden name. My date of birth, my full address, (Both physical and mailing.). My citizenship. My phone number. Etc... I pointed out that every bit of the information that she required, was right there in front of her. She looked, and you could see that she knew darn well, she was wrong, but she was doubling down, instead of admitting defeat. She said that I could have just printed those out myself, at home. I didn't point out to her that "internet printots" would have been ok. And that this was not just some printout, as evidenced by the rubber stamp... She was desperate to keep me under the thumb of her authoritay! and Her next move would have likely been to call the cops and have me removed from the place...

Got to thinking about this again. Going over it because of posting here...
Before he called the supervisor/manager, the guy had been dissatisfied with my phone bill as the bill that they require as proof of your address. Nothing wrong with it. He just wasn't satisfied. He wouldn't even say why.
Before giving up, I offered my CPL as proof of address. He accepted that.
Now I am wondering if the nazi woman was such a nazi because I have a CPL. And maybe she was just determined to do whatever it took to keep me from getting the enhanced DL that day because of that...

It's obvious the lady at the DMV hasn't had her jaw broken recently. She sure could use it. Didn't even happen to me and I'm fuming. I HATE this kind of petty tyranny.

There is a reason there is a sign that says, "threatening or intimidating a DMV employee is a crime" on the wall there.
Ive never seen that sign at Ace hardware or at AMPM or BurgerKing etc. Hmmm,?!

I took the kids down to Lynnwood DOL a couple years ago to get their enhanced ID cards (both under 18). I just gave them their SSN#from my tax return, and their birth certificates. Didn't need the cards.
Did have to call their mother to find out her place of birth. And had to go back the next day because the oldest didn't copy the youngest's SSN# properly.

BTW that DMV print out is not valid for a gun purchase, only for driving.

None of them were the least bit concerned. And back to the OP - I had the exact same problem with the Bellevue office a few weeks ago trying to get an enhanced DL. It was insanely frustrating.
