Tale of two watches.

One I bought in April 2001 to celebrate the success of my new business.
The other I gave to my brother in 1999 as a Christmas gift.
I wear my Rolex daily.
His Invicta sits as new on my sons dresser.
My brother was an electrician, never wore a watch.
Died Dec 24, 2018 at 53.
RIP Keith.

Nice picture, those pre-ceramic SD’s are great.

Is that the Invicta pro diver with the ETA movement?

No, classic Miyota shit movement.
I actually regulated one to under 1 sec/day.
Haven't touched that one.

Wearing the 18K Mont D'Or and Panerai Tantalum until I figure out which place to get the Sea Dweller fixed.
Kinda dreading the bill on that.
Service is gonna be $1,000++ and about $100 to ship each way and the highest I can insure it for is $5,000, worth more than that.
Watch friends gave me the names of a few watchmakers, and to use USPS Priority mail.

Wish I knew of a good local service guy.
Used to go to a guy on Lake City Way, took a couple watchmaking classes from him back in the day, but he must be in his 90's.
Truly is a dying art. The people that know how to do it are all dying.

Still a spot in Lake City, has some good reviews, supposedly trained in Europe...

Thanks.
Nothing on their site about servicing movements, and Rolex parts are really hard to get.
I'll call them.

If not them, then try Nesbit’s, but you’ll have to enter ground zero...

I got back from Iraq in 2006 and bought an Omega Sea Master for a Christmas present to myself. I really like the watch, but every 3 years it stops making accurate time and has to be sent in for maintenance. I quit wearing it years ago and it needs to be fixed again. This is why I don't buy nice things.

You need to find a #watchplumber.

Called Nesbits, they won't work on a Sea Dweller.
Pressure tester doesn't go high enough to re-certify it.
Certified at 4,000 ft, their equipment only goes down to 3,600 (also need 25% more pressure as a safety margin)

I don't need it to be tested to 4,000 feet, but they won't work on something if they can't certify that it is good as a factory service. Seem very conscientious. I'd take other watches there for service.

I’m a watch enthusiast.

The lesbians next door asked me what I would like for my birthday.

I was quite surprised when they gave me a Rolex.

It was very nice of them, but I think they misunderstood me when I said, "I wanna watch."

Speaking of Costco and Glycine, I recently saw a Combat Sub there that caught my eye, especially for the price. $289 before tax. I wanted to wait until after Christmas to pick one up, but I noticed it wasn’t listed on Costco’s website, so I emailed their jewelry support folks. Turns out, they’re no longer stocking the Combat Sub reference number GL0076, just the Combat 6 and a stealth looking Airman. So what’s in inventory at various stores is what there is. That was all it took for me, and I cruised down to my local Costco and snagged one.

So if you want a Combat Sub for cheaper than anywhere else I’ve seen, your window of opportunity at Costco is coming to a fast close.

It’s been three days and I love this watch. I sized the bracelet and then immediately removed it and put it on a black NATO. With how thin and lightweight this watch is, it’s so comfortable. I’ve been reading up on Glycine and the Combat Sub for a little while now and have been wanting to try one, and with this, I’m definitely an instant fan of the brand and will probably pick up another one or two in different colorways at some point.
