With a US population of 172 million then compared to 328 million today. The equivalent of 178,640 today. And life went on as normal.
Same thing happened in 1968 too.
Yep, and 400,000 people attend Woodstock that summer. I'm a dinosaur.

In February 1957, a new influenza A (H2N2) virus emerged in East Asia, triggering a pandemic (“Asian Flu”). This H2N2 virus was comprised of three different genes from an H2N2 virus that originated from an avian influenza A virus, including the H2 hemagglutinin and the N2 neuraminidase genes. It was first reported in Singapore in February 1957, Hong Kong in April 1957, and in coastal cities in the United States in summer 1957. The estimated number of deaths was 1.1 million worldwide and 116,000 in the United States.

Using those numbers I arrived at an equivalent of 221,209 today

It pisses me off to read how all this bullshit is unconstitutional. (I don't disagree with it) One reads it all over the internet. but no one suggests any ideas of defiance. While I realize that there are liability issues of suggesting ideas that might not be productive............. But there ought to be some things that could be done, without someone feeling they are exposing themselves by suggesting something. I personally feel that when someone complains without suggesting a solution, THEN YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM. My employees have learned a long time ago that if they come to me with a problem that I need to address, they better have some idea of a solution. In other words.......... THINK.
I have been knocking a "Park Closed" sign down every time I walk the dog. And every day the sign gets put back up. Tonight there was too many people around using the park, where before it was deserted. So I'm taking that to mean these people are doing their own acts of defiance, by using the parks in defiance of the signs. So I didn't knock any signs down. Who knows, I might have been applauded, had I done so.
Remember in November... I like that. We have sign makers here? I'd front some money for this. I'm not a T-Shirt person, so I don't know about this.
Bought some patriotic masks today, to wear where masks are required. Can't wait for them to arrive.
Unfortunately I'm one of the privileged that is allowed to work during this shutdown, so can't use that. But I want to start squawking, and squawking LOUD.

I so wish we had a news source like SkyNews in Australia. They actually investigate and report facts. Their reporters actually do their job and aren't just talking heads.

That petition had a lot of words but didn't say anything. If they want to put a halt to productivity, I think the time they wasted writing it (not to mention the time I wasted reading it) is a good start.
