It was always a money making scheme to take advantage of people's fears of the yearly flu that they could never truly predict. And it's not always the flu serum, but all the other stuff they add in that we never know about that can harm your immune system. Use your God given immune system, eat well, supplement, exercise, pray, try not to have co-morbidities (like obesity), avoid risk (does not mean exercise your immune system by personally interacting with people) and you should do ok.
