Welcome. Lots of good knowledge and good people here.

Practice dry fire with that 92. Unload the pistol. Move to another room. No ammo should be in the room with you. Aim in on something would stop the round if the gun went off. Practice working that first long (double action) trigger pull. Manually cycle the slide and then fire the light (single action) trigger. Get a feel for both. The key is trigger control. Once you have made the decision to shoot, smoothly press the trigger to the rear until the weapon fires. Don't pull the trigger. Steady press on the trigger until the weapon fires.

Welcome and a nice start on your collection. I have all but the Henry rifle you ordered and love them all, my Beretta is an Inox (Stainless) without the rail and it is my everyday carry and a damn fine shooter. Now that you are down the rabbit hole you`ll probably be building your own AR`s in 6 months.....lol

My son (12) seems to be really interested in going hunting. I'm wondering what would be involved in finding a location and shooting at some invasive grey squirrels with 22s? :)

I recommend Hunter’s Safety Education as a start.

Well welcome to the fold! Good choices, good stuff! Beretta 92 series is a modern classic, and it'll be reliable and last for years.

Next steps: get your CPL, get some good solid formal training and a solid holster and you're on your way!

CPL -- is that possible at the moment?

It may not be. Most agencies are not doing finger prints that are needed for first time CPLs. I would call around.

I got fingerprinted at Oly post office no problem!

Hunter Ed for both of you sounds like a great Father-Son activity.

You can do most of it online and then find a hands on portion to test.

Started hunters education on-line (hunter-ed). It looks like everything (including virtual field day) can be done online.

Just wanted to let you all know that my son and I had a great time plinking with the Henry at Issaquah Sportman's Club. I've also completed my hunter education (hunter-ed) and will be starting my son soon. :)

Nice! Those Henry lever .22s are fun. I have one, though mine’s not as flashy and fancy as yours.

Finally got the Beretta 92X. That was an interesting experience. I also tried my friend's Springfield XDM. I felt that the Beretta had less recoil and I could get it back on target more quickly. Not sure why...

I also liked the Beretta sites a bit more.

Because it weighs just shy of a whale's testicle.
