I remember tending my fathers sheep in the foothills above my child hood home in the summer evenings of 1946, just after the war ended.
I remember being at boarding school and getting hit on the knuckles by angry nuns who we talked back to.
I remember flying over the atlantic in 1952, running up and down the isles of the airplane drinking coca cola. the engines exhaust were red cherry hot.

I also remember living as a small boy in my home town of the french Pyrenees during world war 2. the german soldiers used to let us ride in the sidecars of their bmw motorcycles, and would give us pencils, crayons, candy, and licorice at school. they used the church and school as what i know now as a military intelligence headquarters, back then we thought it was a school for them too! I am 85.

Yeah I think you win this one.

I read a book recently, Shibumi, which despite its Japanese name is mostly set in the French Pyrenees, in the Basque region. Lots of place names with a healthy dose of Zs and Ks befitting the Basque language. Seems like an interesting area without a whole lot of fanfare/tourism but centuries of history.

We had Yard Darts, sent my friend to the ER when he took one on the noggin.

We got Pong and every kid in the neighborhood came over to play.

I remember when people dressed up to fly and they served legitimate meals during the flights.

Also remember my dad giving me a dollar and a note to buy him cigarettes at the local store. Still had enough left over for a candy bar.

I made a dozen lawn darts last summer. They are badass. Thoroughly dangerous

We had a party line phone until I was almost 14.

I remember going more than 5 miles one way, through a blizzard I could hardly see through, to get my mom some cigarettes. I was 10. Man, that is one mean addiction. Yep. Money and a note.

Yep.

I thought it was like magic!

Of course, Madpick introduced me to red dot sights. (I'd never seen one before.) And I thought THAT was magic, too!

And you could smoke during the flight.

I also remember my neighbor got HBO, shows didn’t start until I think 7 or 8pm. And ended at 1 am.

Forgot about that. The HBO song would come on when it started. Saw it a hotel.

I remember the last plane I smoked on, 1991 I think, going to London from SF.

Remember pull-knob cigarette machines? Like the knobs on my 77 Bronco. Cigarette machine next to a pay phone at bars and lounges. (Remember lounges with candles?)
