Oil (and natural gas) fund the conflict.

Ukraine provides distraction for a continued Azeri advance.

Azeri gas and oil provide for energy cut off by Russia, to a small but growing degree.

Israelis are bedfellows with the Muslim Azeris, getting oil and selling arms, in a enemy-of-my-enemy type alliance against Iran.

Fox has been covering it off & on for quite awhile, including Blinken’s failed effort 3 weeks ago to “foster peace”…

It annoys me to no end that the way I found out about a frigging war going on between two countries is through the Firearms blog talking about what guns they use, checking mainstream news on the same day, front page is nothing but trump and trump related stuff while hundreds of people are dead in a god damn war.

This is a hundred years long separatist conflict about majority-armenian enclave (Nagorno-Karabakh) in azeri borders wanting out, originally set up by British map making at the end WW1. See more about it if interested : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nagorno-Karabakh. It flares up from time to time since Soviet breakup in 90s in relatively short low intensity skirmishes. No major power seems to see much of interest in it. Russia provides peacekeeping assistance on the side of Armenia. Perhaps Azeri decided Russia is distracted enough in Ukraine to unfreeze conflict to their advantage.

Oh, I think Europe and NATO Turkey are paying a lot of attention since .ru cut off the flow of gas and Nord blew up.

https://azertag.az/en/xeber/Italy_was_A ... hs-2341478

Italy was their top export market lately.

Here's something from the Azeri side:

Propaganda as a strategy.

BTW: fuck wikipedia. I think some of you put too much stock into its credibility.

Is there anything specifically you want to challenge? If you do, you can provide editorial input :)

It is an impressive demonstration of ultra-modern warfare. It's not just random kamikaze shit either. It's a definitive thing in the new age, drones are a real threat. I can only imagine how much more sophisticated Chinas drone arsenal is.

You should search the Chinese drone swarms going through the the bamboo forest.- It won't make you feel warm and Fuzzy!!!

Well this is rather unexpected: (From the Forward Observer newsletter)

"Azeri news sources announced a delegation of Azerbaijani Parliament members have arrived in England to attend the annual NATO Parliamentary Summit. The move comes days after Azeri President Ilham Aliyev made several pro-NATO comments during a joint press conference following a meeting with the Albanian government, where Aliyev praised his country’s “platform of close cooperation with NATO” and called for closer ties with Albania and the collective West."

FWIW Azeri and NATO relationship go way back to 90s...
Brief summary can be found for example here : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Azerbaija ... _relations
Their guys participated with NATO in Kosovo, Iraq, Afghanistan.
Or here's a NATO page : https://www.nato.int/cps/en/natohq/topics_49111.htm

Also for context: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Azerbaija ... orces#NATO
Quote:
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and Azerbaijan actively cooperate on defence institutional reforms and have developed practical cooperation in many other areas. Azerbaijan's Individual Partnership Action Plan (IPAP) and its Partnership for Peace (PfP) linkages lay out the programme of cooperation between Azerbaijan and NATO.

The Azerbaijani government has however delayed implementing IPAP-recommended reforms, however, in part at least because no decision had been taken to seek NATO membership. This is because Azerbaijan's foreign policy 'seeks to balance interests with the U.S., EU, Russia and Iran.'[105]

According to a NATO diplomatic source some key officials at NATO headquarters in Brussels were pushing hard for engaging Azerbaijan on the membership question. "Turkey, Romania, Italy, Poland, the United Kingdom and the Baltic states," are among the member-states also backing a fast track for Azerbaijan's NATO membership.[106]

However, Azerbaijan made its policy of not being aligned with a geopolitical/military structure official when it became a full member of the Non-Aligned Movement in 2011.
