I was just installing a new surround sound amp at the folks and I sure wish that the damned smart function on their Samsung had died because they do not use that function. You want to look at the curved screens. With the curved screens you all do not have to sit right in front to see everything on the screen. From the side works just fine plus that bit of curve helps you to see depth much better..

Lg oled is the best picture quality you can buy. It's the only tv to recommend.
Unless you use it as a computer monitor and get burn in.

We bought an LG on picture quality and price............
Kindof a mistake.
LG "smart" software interface ain't that. We are almost ready just to go to HDMI input and ROKU again, LG interface is just stupid and jumpy and slow and not even user friendly. Plus, one thing you might expect from SOFTWARE is consistency, right? Nope. I cannot recommend LG, although the price and picture are fine.

My buddy installs high end AV gear for a living and recommends Samsung and Sony with LG as a third choice if the others aren’t available.
Reason being that they have great picture quality and good UIs. As mentioned, LGs UI isn’t very good.
If you’re going to connect a sound bar or other sound system, make sure you get one with HDMI ARC. That allows you to control the sound bar through the TV more easily.
As for which model specs, decide a budget and measure your space. Then get the biggest TV that fits into your space for your budget. Then choose based on specs. Unless you have eagle eyes, you likely won’t notice much of a difference between some of the new screen technologies.

IMO the price jump to OLED is not justified by the gain in picture quality. Having a better user interface is something you’ll appreciate more and don’t have to pay any extra for. We’re happy with the interface on our new Samsung. And my folk’s Sony is nice too. I’d opt for a bigger tv with a better UI and QLED or crystal LED than going smaller to get a OLED.

IIRC 'refresh rate' was a big deal. It determined how moving images displayed. Too slow of a refresh rate would make images blur, especially faces, when moving and talking.

Do the costco thing and play around with the interfaces if you want, but Roku, Firestick or whatever portable droid box you like is best. Only one interface to remember.

This is one area where the LG kicks ass. It supports HDR. It supports Variable Refresh Rate. It supports High refresh rate. It supports Gsync. LG OLED is without a doubt the best TV you can buy. The only downside is burn-in if you use it as computer monitor or watch the same channel 24x7. Literally nobody can argue against this. It's crazy, but this is the 1 time where there really is "the best" and then everything else is 2nd or 3rd best. It's like the Pioneer Kuro TV's of the past. Nobody could come close to challenging them. Everything else was trash.

We use an xbox for most things, the TV is really just a big monitor for that
The controller works better for navigating and the 'chat pad' is really nice when you are searching for something on netflix
