As I mentioned in the "BOLO: cootduster" thread, Rod worked his ass off to keep our classified sections clean. He will be sorely missed!

To help us stay on top of this, we are changing the process slightly -- for the better, I think.

When you have a pending sale or otherwise want to close your classifieds thread, please:

1) Edit the title of the first post to "delete" or "sold."
2) Bump (reply to) the thread! (Yes, even if you just posted it 30 seconds ago.)

Yes, it's that simple. No more locking of the threads. Just edit the title and bump it, please.

As you know, a moderator's main concern is finding the good deals and snagging them for himself, so you'll always find the moderators sniffing the top of the forum. This process will slam the closed threads to the top, in front of the moderators' faces, and may even prompt some action. :wink05:

If this topic really intrigues you, you can find more info here:
Rules for the Classifieds (Buying, Selling and Browsing)
How to close your thread

Thank you, folks! :wagwoot:

Considering how few close their threads. Hope this will work better.

Good idea

Is it possible to add the ability to allow a user to delete their own thread in the classifieds?

Yes it’s possible, but it comes with complications that make it more trouble than it’s worth.

Out of curiosity, have you thought about automating this process? If all “to be closed ads” have the same keywords in the title, it is straight forward to detect with code.

It becomes more of a question on how the clean-up/delete process runs. As I’m not familiar with the site software and how it stores the data.

No, we haven't really considered it. It's relatively quick to delete a thread -- the hard part is actually seeing it. The idea here is that if everyone will bump the thread, and it's obvious from the title that it needs to be deleted, then click-click it's gone.

I also know that it's a reality that people won't do exactly what we've asked. The instructions say to put "sold" or "delete" in the title. I know that we'll wind up with spf, gone, got one, please delete, sold thanks WaGuns, and many other variations of the original request. Not a huge deal as long as they get bumped!

I just want to say "thank you" to all of the folks who have been following the new process, both bumping and editing the titles . . . the threads jump right into our faces, and we get them deleted right away.

Thanks, everyone!

+1 you all are doing a great job and we appreciate the senior members who have stepped up to bump threads that didn’t follow. Thank you all! You make our jobs easier!
