I saw that, pretty cool. Sure is isolated though.

How does Mrs. Digger feel about this? You may need this if she bails. https://latinawomenbrides.com/nicaraguan/

I wouldn't mind an island in the Aleutians. Yeah the weather is pretty crappy, but the fishing and hunting would be great! I doubt I'll be able to pry the wife away from family though.

Somewhere near my roots in the South, a waterfront property in the Florida panhandle next to lifelong friends or southern Alabama.

My retirement property I bought when we were 38 and 33 years of age was 5400 feet in prime Elk territory near Ennis MT. We got married at the 60 acre ranch next door of ours property which was owned by my step-dad.
Well, my dream retirement property was ruined by 2 things. I married a nurse and the older we got the more concerned she was about level 2 health care, the nearest being 2.5 hrs away in Butte. The other was the influx of California's population who bought up other pieces of property, and eventually became the Land owners association board and changed all the bi-laws of hunting and fishing there....basically these were Sierra Club property owners.
So we sold it for 6 times what we paid for it about 14 years later.

for a while i've been thinking of retiring to the UK. really into history, gothic architecture, traveling thru europe. living in the UK would be a good place to start from. until recently, they had a "retired person of means" visa, you prove you make $30k a year (SS, pension, 401k) and come on in. they just got rid of that and now it's an "investor's" visa. you have to place $2.5 million of spendable cash in a UK bank account. well that counts me out. there a YT channel that's really into this stuff, dual citizenships, tax restructuring... https://www.youtube.com/c/nomadcapitalist . for people richer than most of us i'd wager, but still a lot of good tips if you're looking to get out of the US for tax and other reasons.

The perfect storm, snowbirding is an option. If we could swing it we’d have a 1/2 acre with large 5th wheel somewhere around Mossyrock for summer fun on Riffe Lake and still close to the grandkids. Home base for winter will be in the Florida panhandle. There is no one perfect place for us as we age.

Right now I'm thinking Liveaboard RV... winter basecamp with a dry-land "boatshed" somewhere warm, if things straighten out with my gal maybe a part-summer similar arrangement on her side of the border. (Right now she seems to be picking fights about everything possible on politics... she actually likes Liz Cheney. :( ) If not... one less property to worry about, summer roadtrip then come back after hurricane season ends.
