Thurston County Gun Turn-In

I've been sick the last few days. I havent turned on a TV or computer until now so I'm kind of late to this thread. If theres going to be some sorta organized buy back, I'm in. I sold a bunch of P-mags and the money is burning a hole in my pocket. If this can be done and not make us look like a bunch of rightwing cooks, looking to get cheap guns, we need to do it.

I think this is an excellent idea and could be a publicity positive event, if it’s handled correctly. You guys know a lot more about guns than I do, but from what I’ve read, the following does have a chance to succeed:

1. Contact the sheriff and make sure they are OK with what we are doing, whether it’s the same day or the day before.
2. Have a small group of clean cut, folks out there, guys and gals to talk to people as they arrive.
3. Have a group to evaluate each weapon and insure it’s worth buying and set a price.
4. Have someone working on simple receipt type paperwork.

I’m interested as both an investor and as a helper, if required.

A bunch of guys show up at a gun buy back and post up and offer $$ to the people turning them??? My guess is that those people will be asked to leave the premisis and would be arrested for trespassing if they do not leave. I hope it works out for you guys but I just don't see it.

It would be better suited all around if Waguns just put on their own gun buy back/turn in instead of showing up at someone elses. I think it would look much more positive for the Waguns community (yes I understand that you guys are trying to keep Waguns out of it but if media is there they will portait the people there as a bunch of gun nuts trying to hi-jack someone elses event). The only obsticles would be promoting and insuring the general public that guns turned in were going to a good cause and will be in the hands of law abiding citizens

I think that those attending from this forum have and meet a dress attire of wearing dress style clothes. Collared shirts button up shirts nice cloths. Slacks or dress jeans. Not just woke up and threw something on. Once the press sees people buying back they are going to try and make us look bad.

No matter what, the headlines will read similar to: "greedy gun nuts disrupt sherriff's department attempt to get bad guns off the street, by buying them for themselves"

Were a rather small population center compared to other places these buybacks/turn ins have happened and were also quite some distance from the local media entities so im hoping these two factors limit the potential for media attention. This is also why i suspect there wont be a lot or much for high value stuff that shows up let alone people willing to hand them to us even if were offering $$$$

As expected the sheriffs office is not being prompt in a response and i suspect we wont hear from them, if not at the last minute, to avoid a media circus which would certainly not be in thier favor if they were in any way attempting to say we cant be there also.

Being scared and not willing to exert our rights is exactly why we lose them, you gotta face the "man" and exercise those rights once in awhile. If we can do that and save some guns in a positive and professional manner then its a win all the way around

Yes it would be nice to have an established professional interest group as a face for this but Dan has made clear thats not gonna happen and that has to be respected. This can very easily go either way and we dont want to bring any negativity to a good group that we dont own and are simply part of.

We could probably bring the media and or a more notable face or entity into this effort but i would avoid it if we can as we dont want to make it a place that people avoid because of the lack of anonymity with reciepts, media, etc.

I don't envision Thurston County having too many residents willing to just give up their guns to LE like that. It would be interesting to see the media report on that.
