I have an account at Americas Credit Union and another at WSECU.

I've had the ACU account for several years.

In the last year, our information has been "compromised" several times. They JUST sent me a new ACU card 2 weeks ago, I haven't activated it yet, and today fraud prevention calls and says my card was attempted to be used at a truck stop in CA.

My wife's WSECU card was compromised 5 months ago, and they sent her another card last week because her card was "compromised" at Target.

Anyone have a bank that doesn't suck. Recommendations?

I gotta get my money out of these places before it disappears.

USAA

best bank / insurance company there is.

takes a little getting used to not having a physical branch to go in, but their service can't be beat.

I switched from BECU to AlaskaUSA about a year and a half ago, and I'm pleased with the service so far.

We don't use our cards at shady places. Online bill pay or in retail stores. Nothing out of the ordinary.

+1. It's more likely that you should change gas stations before banks, but I've used BECU for years and it's been good. I also use SECUWA, which has been good, but I think that you have to have a teacher in the family.

I worked in retail banking for 2 years. Realistically as long as you keep your checkbook balanced and know the type of account you have, any of the big banks are fine.

I personally mainly use Union bank as it was the last one I worked at and it gave me a money market savings higher than any 1-3 year CD. I also keep a Bank of America account open with a few hundred dollars just for the convenience of ATMs on every corner.

:plusone: This, exactly.

I've been with BECU for 23 years and I'm very happy with them . . . but my cards have been compromised a number of times too, including the recent Target debacle. That's not a BECU problem, though. In fact, I give BECU and their suppliers big kudos for always catching the "leaks," and never costing me a dime from fraud.

You should look into opening an account at US bank. The branch down the road from you is open 7 days a week. M-F till 7. That alone is well worth it even if it is not your main account. I don't keep all my $$ in one account or one bank.

USAA if you're eligible (you probably are). Best CS of any vendor we deal with, ever, hands down. Plus their interest rates on their credit cards are fairly low, their fraud detection is very good. Lack of local branches is a problem, but we have a local CU that we use for that (First Tech CU, also top notch).

Wells Fargo & Chase are both banks, which means they're out to make a profit on you. Credit unions are not. There is absolutely no good reason to "bank" with a bank when there are CU's available. I've had an account with NFCU (which you're also probably eligible for) since I was four years old and never had a problem with them. Used them the entire time I was in the USN and still have accounts (dormant) with them. They're my place to stash cash that I don't want easy access to.
