After living in this state for 5 years, I can certify that WA schools are in no danger of having smart graduates, let alone the smartest!
The grammar that emerges from the mouths of young folks anymore is stunning. The inability to hold a conversation for more than 6 seconds, along with all the simplistic mind sets are proof that the public education system is a failure.
And owning a small business probably emphasizes this on a daily basis for you, Jim!

Teachers get 14% wage increase.
Office personnel get 19% wage increase.
Huh, and here I thought the strike was about Quality teacher-student learning matrix and higher teacher salaries so we get the Finest Teachers in the classroom. Therefore we produce the smartest graduating classes.
Does Janitorial staff get an increase as well?
Bus Drivers?
I own a small business.....I'm thinking staff needs a 20% raise.
bunch of whinny fucks every yr. bitch about pay but yet you get 4 months off

Not to take their side...
The district got an increase in funding from the state. In stead of increasing teacher pay they added admin positions and increased existing admins salary’s. The top end of the Tacoma school district is a bloated mess.
TSD needs an enema.

Yeah but it is time off unpaid. Teachers are paid on a 180 day contract. So their take home pay is reflected of working 180 days. So they aren't really getting paid for days they aren't working. Districts decided to take the total salary and divide it up into 12 month payments for two reasons. Contracts were 12 month contracts, not 9, so teachers wouldn't be able to sign up for unemployment, and the districts can hold onto that money longer in the bank and make more interest on the money over the long term.
If you want teachers to work over the summer, than students better have butts in seats and be there to learn. None of this, we are going on a camping trip for a week give me my work that I'll never do over the trip anyway nonsense.
Personally I would prefer a year long system. Two months on with a pause in the action etc. Would give the students a chance to recharge as they seem to get burnt out faster and faster these days.

This is what happens when usrifle is under a lot of stress. His recent fear of Sinus211 is doing this to him.
So sad, he was a tough guy when he was younger.
Mike, if might be time to back off a bit.

okay... get ready for a belly laugh....
wrenching on an old PU (See also: What had MADE your day, from yesterday)
pulledthe old bumper and was tightening down one of the bumper mounting horns... Using a 3/4" socket I discovered that the nut is really an 18mm metric bastige when the socket slipped and I fell over backward hitting my head on the opposing bumper mounting horn on the way down, and biting... no ...shredding the tip of my tongue. (You have to stick you tongue out when wrenching so you can get enough torque)
Seeing stars... laying flat on my back... I pretended to be looking under the truck hoping the neighbors weren't paying attention!
