I'm going 45 MPH.....no reaction time to stop for suicidal deer..
I pulled over to dispatch the deer, but apparently its head was severed and its body managed to make it into the ditch, so, no need to drag DNR into this since it was already dead.
No apparent damage to my truck, looks like bumper knocked it over, and skid plate did its job...
Why am I pissed?
I cried. I don't cry over stupid animals doing stupid shit....
Either I'm going soft, or I got a lot more shit on my plate than I think I do and my brain is making excuses to release some of it...
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go find a hug.

Its not legal for you to dispatch it btw. Even if its the right thing to do, its not the legal thing to do. DNR has nothing to do with roadkills either. You'd want to contact WDFW. The best way to honor that animal would have been to salvage it. Its a very quick and easy "permit" on the WDFW site.
I am sorry this happened to you. Luckily your rig is in good shape still. Consider what I said for the next time this happens.

I've heard conflicting stories. Illegal to shoot it... Illegal to not shoot it if capable because animal cruelty, etc. Thanks for heads up about fish and wildlife, I tend to lump DNR and WDFW together forgetting they're actually separate agencies...
2 lane road, ditch on both sides, rural, no street lights, no shoulder, 45MPH speed limit = 60MPH cars... Not safe to do anything other than remove it from the road, TBH, and as mentioned, I didn't have to do that. I'm lucky I have my Christmas tree/UFO setup and that definitely slowed traffic but still not something I'd wanna risk my safety doing.. Being outside of a vehicle on a road like that is pretty low on my list of things to do. Heh.
Edit: looked it up... Indeed.. Unlawful to euthanize... Fucking stupid. And permit is https://wdfw.wa.gov/licensing/game_salv ... ation.html in case anyone else needs it.

Yep! I just went through this on Mothers Day. Hit an Elk and totalled my Jeep on the way to work. Sheriff and WDFW said illegal to dispatch. Which, like I said, doesnt mean its the wrong thing to do. Not saying you should have endangered yourself for it, but it may turned a shitty situation into a positive one if you were able to salvage anything at all. Couldnt hurt to boost your food stuffs, or at the least local food banks are always happy to take to fresh wild game.

For years I thought it was the other way around, its ok to put the animal out of its misery but illegal to take the meat.
I stand corrected
