Tear apart a century old light socket. Find the spring mechanism for the on/off switch is a set of thin flat bronze or brass leaf springs which are about shot. I'm going to have to fabricate a new set. The rest of it just needs a good scrubbing and reassembly.

Why do tools break when you START the job, not when you are almost done?
Started on a Glock trigger guard undercut and 10 seconds after the Dremel starts the fracking plastic shaft connector gave up the ghost.
Now we wait for Amazon to send more. At least it's an easy fix.

Going out this morning to walk the dogs and finding mail scattered all across the street, every single one of the six mailboxes clearly opened and dumped. F*ckers took their time, too--every one of the envelopes I picked up had been slit open and the contents rifled, meaning that the little b*stards sat there and went through approximately 40 pieces of mail, at least.

I didn't lose anything, my immediate next door neighbour didn't lose anything, but everybody else? Yup. Our mail is delivered late, sometimes as late as 1815, so a lot of people (including myself, on occasion) don't pick up their mail until the next morning.

To add to the frustration, the f*cking USPS won't even investigate unless you can provide the tracking number(s) of what went missing or was "intentionally damaged". Seriously? How many bills, credit card statements/offers, etc. have a f*cking tracking number? I filed a police report online with the BPD, but that's pretty much all that can be done.

The only upside is that they hit the mailboxes today/last night, instead of around the first of the month, when my elderly neighbours who opt to receive their Social Security payments and pension payments via cheque receive those cheques.

Locking mailboxes. It's the only solution, sadly.

Maybe this should go in the "what has made your day today" thread, but a neighbour from several blocks over whom I'd never met, just now showed up with a Safeway bag of my mail. I didn't think that I'd been hit, I was wrong.

Apparently they hit every mailbox off of 156th SE from about SE 27th St all the way up to the Lake Hills Blvd (148th Ave NE). Every. Single. One. And this one guy is picking up the mail, sorting it, and delivering it to people this morning. Which is like six degrees of awesome.

I don't think that they got anything from me, though--envelopes that were clearly bills they didn't open; they did open, rifle through, and discarded my quarterly 401(k) statement, and for some reason, they did the same with a letter from my physician with the lab report on some routine bloodwork. Tossed some magazines/journals out as well--Outside, AJN, Nursing 2016.

So it turned out okay, at least for me.

I have a P.O box

I travel so much I got a po box at a UPS store. They sign for packages and I have a street address. Plus they send me an email any time a package arrives.

8 people on my road got together and put up a cluster box. Best damn 200 bucks we ever spent.
