Write down or record everything he tells you. There are very few survivors of World War II left, relatively speaking. First hand accounts are invaluable.

Yep ...spent time with Duke EB's Grandfather.

That was an unforgettable afternoon.

Then why is gas as high as it is? $3.25/gal.

Gas is bought on contracts. Price changes at the pump can lag behind market swings. (is what I've heard)

The elasticity of pricing is always my first suspicion.

Watch how fast prices jump after a factor arises, versus how slowly they fall after the factor wears away.

Quote:
A good or service is considered highly elastic if even a slight change in price leads to a sharp change in the quantity demanded or supplied. Usually these kinds of products are readily available in the market and a person may not necessarily need them in his or her daily life, or if there are good substitutes. For example, if the price of Coke rises, people may readily switch over to Pepsi. On the other hand, an inelastic good or service is one in which large changes in price produce only modest changes in the quantity demanded or supplied, if any at all. These goods tend to be things that are more of a necessity to the consumer in his or her daily life, such as gasoline.

Fuel is one of the least elastic goods there is, and gasoline the least among the fuels.
I suspect that the fuel mongers milk the situation as long as they're able to, knowing the inelasticity.

That, by definition, would classify as "demand"... (and gouging?)

OK, same def.

Personally, I'd go with gouging. :blackcloud1:

Thank you....

I was like... 'Huh? that's exactly what 'demand' is'.....and exactly what I was talking about.... I believe memorial day weekend is the second highest travel time other than Thanksgiving...

Helped a friend find a wheel for her car.
Hit a barrier (I didn't ask), 1" depression in her rim.
Figured it would lose the bead and blow out soon.
Body shop quoted her $171, I found her a rim for $15.

Took the light rail down to Safeco, went to the Ms game, spent a couple hours down there after and just got home. Great weather, great game, good IPA's, and some damn good food.
