Right now when I hit the pistol range I've been using a bag designed for other purposes. Like any other over caffeinated yuppy I now realize the extreme need for a bag specifically engineered for the tough conditions present in an indoor, heated range.
No really, a generic bag just isn't cutting it.
Any suggestions? I usually bring a couple hundred rounds of ammo and two pistols.

I have the LA Police Gear bail out bag and it works well for me.

I'm a total whore for the ginormous Midway bag:
http://www.midwayusa.com/product/939221689/midwayusa-competition-range-bag-pvc-coated-polyester?cm_vc=ProductFindingThis thing is HUGE, more than big enough for two pistols . . . but you know you need room for growth. It's like buying a safe.

They go on sale occasionally for $40, but they're still a bargain at $50.

I think that's the same bag that I won in the WaGuns PIF-o-rama at Christmas and it is truly amazing. For a quick trip to the range, I go with something smaller, but when I'm going for the day, I can fit EVERYTHING in it!

That's the one!

For individual guns(only taking one gun to the range) I use the LA police gear. For class room or training I use the big one Steve pointed out(from another manufacturer and for almost double the price. FU Steve...)

King size pillow case.
Pick 'em up at Value Village for a buck.

I just ordered its little brother (in coyote tan) while it's on sale for $30:
http://www.midwayusa.com/product/324438I'll post my first impressions when it gets here . . . .
UPDATE
It arrived this afternoon, and it's nicer than suggested by the ad. Attention to detail is obvious - for example, the pad for the shoulder strap is curved so it rides straight when it's on your shoulder, and the underside of the pad is the non-slip stuff found on pocket holsters! Inner pockets are big enough to hold my BuckMark rugs (one on each side of the center section. This is a 'structured' bag (keeps its shape when empty) - I like that, but some prefer a bag that can be flattened when not being used.

Great timing on this. I have been considering buying one of those two. I got a Cabela's bag cheap about a year ago, been working but I have been maxing it out with a light range day load..
Anyone have the compact bag already? The awy my luck works, the day before Doc gets it, the sale will end!

We have one of the smaller bags from Sig and it's been awesome. Plenty of space for several pistols, ammo, eyes, ears, etc., but also enough pockets that things aren't rolling around if you're doing a minimalist day. I'll see if I can find a link.

I have one from US Peacekeepers that I got from Amazon which I really like. Plenty big for a couple handguns, ammo, extra mags, and earmuffs.

I also have the compact midway bag (it's not compact) and it easily holds a few hundred rounds and 2-4 pistols. If I need to bring more than that I use the bag for pistols and bring an ammo can.

must just be me, but I really prefer a case. nice and clean, and easy to access everything when sitting on the range table.
mine (made from a harbor freight case):

I took your advice and ordered the Midway bag. (link below) Just received it from the UPS gal a few moments ago.
I am impressed so far, well padded and constructed with waaayyy to many pockets and compartments for my own good. Considering its half the price of the 5.11 bag of comparable size it is definitely worth it.
