Howdy! I am all about this, am looking at getting my first bike. Dual sport. I would like to find a good used WR250R. I gotta wait until work picks up though. in between projects. We have the contracts, but several projects are starting slower then expected. It may be a few months. by then, I am hoping more options will be available, seeing as how the summer will be winding down. I am not a fair weather mt biker, nor am I a fair weather camper, so I don't mind picking one up in fall. It would be great to ride to shooting spots and camping spots, and around town if work is slow, or if I want to save $$$ on gas. This is a great idea. Nice ride by the way! Brian

To ride a m/c on the road, you need a m/c endorsement if it's over 50cc.

Maintained roads(freeways or forest roads)require driver lic endorsement and vehicle licensed for the road.
WITHIN designated orv parks or other city, county or state designated areas requires tabbed orc license and no driver lic.
Private property the gov has no say.
Now, this year there are areas that an orv may be licensed and driven on a maintained road by licensed driver, believe under 35 mph roads

Know a few that had 250's and hated themselves not being able to roll down I-90 at 70 to hit some trails. Good light bike but lacks the extended freeway work. My kid had one a few years ago and I could pull white pass at speed limit and sit at top have way through a soda by the time he'd pull in.

ya I know about the ORV' tags like in OR to ride the dunes

saw a link a few weeks ago on some offroad are now gonna be license and that piss' me off. seems like you cant do anything now and days with getting taxed.

Guess when I was younger hill climbs, jumps and of course some head over heels I was just curious guess your not slamming em hard to really worry about "wobble" when hitting hwy. just one reason I never really got a dual.

Some "dual" sport bikes are as follows:
90% street - 10% dirt (the majority sold)

Some are 25% street - 75% dirt (not that many around)

10% street - 90% dirt (scary to ride on the street) IMHO

We had a great ride yesterday. It was long and we got kinda wet at the end of it. Oh and I fell over once turning around on a trail . My new bike isn't "new" any more. But we had a good time. Thanks Glenn for inviting me along.

Was good run. Weather definitely didn't fare the best but at least it wasn't a soaker.
Don't have sphincter issues often, but coming down Chinook even at 20 mph and not able to see more than about ten feet in front was more than enough excitement for a couple of years. And it was just plain cold.
Have do the reverse Bethel ridge and check out some of the spurs we didn't hit next.
New tires seem to hold up to what we did, except for the snow. If I didn't have momentum, I would've been stuck there.
Got plans for all of July but Aug seems to be somewhat open for a ride here an there.
