Heard on the radio that up to 16,000 military and civilian positions will be cut by i think 2016/17/..
So at 16k being the max number it removes close to $1 billion from the local economy according to komo.

It's another threat to get people to stop complaining about the clusterfuck that is I-5 through there and the lack of a cross-base highway.

What's new? This is a cycle that occurs with every major military involvement by the US in the world. We fight a war, the military bases grow. The war ends, base employment shrinks. I've watched this happen since 1946 (as a little kid). First the wind-down from WWII, then post Korea, Vietnam, end of Cold War, now Iraq and Afghanistan.
What we need to do is figure out how to spend the "trillion dollars per war" here in this country rather than using it to prop up some bull-crap, corrupt, government in the countries we "liberate". We usually force the residents to accept leaders that they can't stand merely because they lie and promise to be our "friends".
Just think how many jobs right here in the US the money spent on Iraq and Afghanistan could have created. Bridges, highways, and other public infrastructure projects would benefit all here. As it is most was merely wasted in Iraq and soon to be a total waste in Afghanistan.

Ah yes, trickle up poverty, that's the ticket.
