where to apply for CPL

Mon Jul 07, 2014 11:32 am

Hi fellas! I just moved to WA recently and want to get my CPL. I live in the Renton area, where is the most painless place to get my CPL? Thanks in advance.

If you're within the city limits of Renton, then go to Renton PD.

If you're in unincorporated King County but outside the Renton limits, then go to the King County Sheriff. You can go to downtown Seattle or Covington; I went to Covington to renew mine, and it was pretty painless.

And FYI . . . even if you have a Renton address, you may be outside the city limits. You'll need to confirm that first.

Just called Renton PD, but appointment for finger printing is more than two weeks long. Does the sheriff's office in Burien takes CPL applications?

:plusone:

If you want the fastest route for an initial issuance, the king County Courthouse in Seattle is the best bet. Otherwise, the King County Sheriff Maple Valley station is a good one. I just did my renewal there as well.
Easy... :thumbsup2:

You're inside the Renton city limits?

If so, I *think* you need to go through Renton PD. If I'm wrong, hopefully someone will correct me.

Yes I am in Renton's city limit, but DOL website says I can go through the PD or the sheriff

Burien will be a long wait for an apt as well. Try the King County Sheriff's office in Maple Valley/Covington.
If it's a 2 week wait there, just go to Seattle and be done.

Thanks gents. I'll give the sheriff's a try

Wow I never knew anyone would have to wait just to apply. I've always used the courthouse in downtown Seattle and had no waiting to get fixed up. Worst experience I've had is missing my renewal date once and having to redo the 30 day wait.

Covington has a limited number of employees who can fingerprint, so appointments are usually a couple weeks out. They're really good about rescheduling, though, as I had to work late at least twice when I had scheduled appointments.

You are correct, however, about the downtown courthouse being easy. The process is even smoother if you come with your $52.50 all ready and application filled out (Linky).

Good luck, and welcome to the Northwest!

Bummer for the wait.
I had a friend wait almost 2 months to receive his-from appointment to CPL in hand.
I live in Redmond-Applied on a Tuesday and received it the following Saturday-11 days.

Hope you get your soon, and have a short wait.

My local PD has a schedule so you can't just drop in anytime. Not a big issue since I planned it ahead of time.
