Let's see , they bent a rifle barrel 180 and it still worked , firing a pistol in a vacuum , and they also shot a bunch of stuff , like wallets and tape measures that were supposed to have stopped a bullet

They've done some interesting myths on the show before.
But the show has gone on to long. Time for it to end.
Ps the o e you saw is a season or two old so just a rerun

I disagree that it has gone on too long. They do fairly balanced tests, and my 15 year old son digs the show. Not enough shows with applicable real world science out there. We need more shows like it, without the hype of some of the "reality" shows.

I saw the tail end of it when they were shooting grenades with a shotgun, a 1911 and a 308 rifle.....
Funny how you pick things up...
The commentator said the 1911 shot a 45mm bullet.....eeeek

....that'd be a kicker.

Lame. I have a gun mag next to the crapper that referred to a ".556 AR rifle." Wouldn't kick quite as hard as a 45mm 1911 though. I suppose a MKA 1919 in 28 gauge would be pretty close to that magical ".556" they were looking for.

I watched one episode where they were shooting over a magnet, to see if it had any effect on the LEAD bullet's trajectory....Guess they did not know a magnet only works on ferrous metals.

45mm 1911, WOW a 1911 in 17.7 caliber.

Actually, that's not 100% true. Nearly all metals are affected by magnetic fields, only SOME are high enough to show attraction. At some recycling plants they use extremely high powered magnets to separate different metals....including copper, steel, lead, stainless,...
The trick is the POWER of the magnetic field. Non-ferrous requires more power than a simple rare-earth magnet, which I'm going to assume is what Myth Busters used to try and deflect the bullet?
That's my biggest gripe about that show. They ASSUME they are smart enough to prove / disprove theories without having enough resources to actually do it.

The goal of the show is to entertain you, as well as to make you think and hopefully discuss science.

I recall one episode some years back where they fired an M1 Garand underwater. Entertaining but still made me wince to see that weapon get abused. Probably wrecked the barrel at least.

We have that show on our DVR. My boys (5 & 7) love that episode as well as the Duct Tape and zombie episodes! I see my boys trying to create (safe) testing scenarios like they see on Mythbusters.
