I hate that we even need to have conversations like this . . . but check it out. It certainly looks like it could make them less effective!

great idea. but they need to make sure they are not cheep doors that you can just kick in the center but then you also have to think about the windows

i would work that post

only problem is that bars dont stop bullets you would have to make sure there was an area that is free of windows with a buffer zone that would not alow the shooter to come throu the window and aim for kids/staff. but with class space already tight that would be a chalange

From a purely pragmatic point of view, they would prefer him penned up in ONE classroom, rather than roaming from class to class.

I had exactly the same thought. Didn't something like that occur at at another school shooting only with chain?

I'd support tools like this but I still think there should be armed persons on the school site. Nothing like a high velocity projectile to bring a halt to things. Even a miss will change the dynamic in an active shooter scenario. They now are on the defensive and who knows, may "eat the barrel" sooner.

I think you meant the Aurora Theater shooter, who chained the emergency exit doors shut.

worked with airplanes.... Bullet proof doors that cant be kick in. Pricey though......

All staff trained, armed, and deadly. Problem solved.

Indeed. Active shooters are (typically) cowards and armed individuals in public places (schools, church, malls, etc.) will end things much quicker...although the more challenging we make killing for the active shooter, the more likely unarmed folks are to survive.

Lock people in and light the building on fire. Now there is an extra element this type of device would only cause more problems for. First responders can't get in quick enough and if it heats up people might not be able to get it off.

An armed guard would be a better deterrent. I think training and equipping teachers with guns would be a bad idea. It would only take one anti 2nd Amendment teacher to 'carelessly' leave their gun out in the open, or threaten a kid with a gun just to prove 'guns are evil.' Not worth the accident. Just like not everyone should drive, not everyone should have a gun.
