Hi, I am new to this site. My name is Adina Hicks and I am one of two Campaign Field Reps for Washington State. I can be reached at
adina@nrailafrontlines.com if you have any questions about Initiative 594 and how you can help defeat this initiative. We need a true grassroots effort to defeat this measure. We have two law enforcement associations that have come out against I-594, The Washington State Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors Association (WSLEFIA) and the Washington Council of Police Chiefs and Sheriffs (WACOPS). A number of County Sheriffs are coming forward individually to oppose I-594, and please contact your local law enforcement to ask them to take a look at this initiative and please step forward to oppose it. Like and share our Facebook page:

Welcome to WaGuns Adina!
WaGuns is poised to help defeat 594 and bolster 591, but we need to know where best to put our $$. Some have said NRA, others POGR. Can you shed some light as to what the NRA is planning on doing to help defeat 594? As you know, Bloomberg has promised millions of dollars to support 594, what kind of financial support can we expect from the NRA to counter that?

I can tell you that we will never be able to match the dollar amount that the anti-gunners will pump into this. I do not have a figure yet as to how much the NRA will be spending on this, but I know it will not be even close to what the billionaires have pumped into it so far. I think this will have to be won on a grassroots level, our base informing themselves and all those around them about this terrible piece of legislation. We have to really push the "Get Out to Vote" and encourage those that are not registered to vote, to get registered at least to vote NO on I-594. If we lose this, we will see our gun rights stripped away, ever so slowly, until they are gone.
If you know any events or forums that would be good speaking opportunities, I have a few individuals that are well versed on this topic, including myself, to educate and encourage our base.

Thank you! This is a job I talked myself into. When I found out about this and read the initiative, my first thought was Nazi Germany, Hitler's gun registration and eventual confiscation. It has also been happening in the US, California, NY, and Connecticut.
I started making phone calls, and the next thing I knew I was working with Brian Judy, the NRA State Legislative Liaison. I started as a volunteer, but when this opportunity came up, I was recommended for the job. I want to do everything I can to protect our rights, so it is a duty and an honor to work on this campaign.

Hi and welcome.
One minor correction: WACOPS is not "Police Chiefs and Sheriffs", it is "Police and Sheriffs". The WACOPS members are guilds and associations that represent their members.
WASPC represents Police Chiefs and Sheriffs (ie CLEOs):

What's the NRA's position on taking this to the courts if this passes?
Fri Jul 18, 2014 9:24 am
My bad on the WACOPS, I think I was combining WASPC with WACOPS, but WASPC has not taken a position and may remain neutral. As for court action, I do not have the specifics, but I do know that Alan Gottlieb plans on court action, again, I do not know the specifics at this time.

That's good to know.
One problem you're going to have with some voters here is the fact that they don't care if the law is bad, or if it makes it unduly difficult on gun owners. In fact, they may know it and relish in it, even knowing it will do nothing to curb crime.
They're just anti-gun.
Also I think it should be noted how Nick Hanauer hired someone based on his success at gaining rights, but now employs him to take rights.

Now that the "Gun Lobby" is here, let's live up to it's reputation and shake Heaven and Earth!

Welcome, Adina! I am planning on organising a voter-calling campaign in late August (I just had ankle surgery yesterday), and have only been able to garner support for cold-calling registered voters who are not already on another pro-2A group (CCRKBA, SAF, etc.) member list. It would be nice to have a list of "soft-call" NRA members/registered WA voters for some of our newer-to-cold-calling members to make initial calls to. I was part of the 2012 Presidential campaign staff and have made over 10,000 cold calls.
These calls do NOT involve asking for money nor asking for membership in any organisation. You should know that the pro-I-594 groups already have volunteer boots on the ground, making pro-I-594 calls. Calls are made from a volunteer's home, on your own cell phone--this provides a one-to-one connection with the call recipient and was extremely effective in both the 2008 and 2012 Presidential campaigns (and yes, I served on both--and am now a paid member of the 2016 campaign staff).
Please PM me with any assistance you can provide.

Adina,
I am really glad you posted here. I was beginning to worry and comment about this concern publically (perhaps that's why you showed up?). I understand and support the pressure behind defeating 594, but what are the NRA's plans for 591? The massive amount of money behind 594 and the several month head start they have (making cold calls, rallying support from the Seattle Times, organizing on social media, etc.) seems daunting to challenge in a realistic manner. It would cost less and require minimal additional effort to encourage voters to support 591. Even if both measures win, it would go to the courts and we could see a lot of damage control instituted via a judge's ruling rather than 594 being implemented without immediate review.
Anyway...I encourage you to reach out to glockgirl regarding calls - I think it's a very important tactic (I've done it in the past as well) and I would be happy to help once the two of you work out the initial details.
