I was told that I should run an aftermarket air filter in my truck. Was told it will give me better power and economy.

i like K&N easy to clean and add the spray to clean and seal again last truck I had it lasted 10yrs still look new, now as far as better power /econ no difference to me

dunno about power and economy, but I use K&N filters because I don't have to replace it as often...
I clean mine once every 2-3 years and they do get somewhat dirty, but they clean up really well afterwards...
never saw a perceptible difference.. even when I put in a cold air intake in a 350z a while back... you get 1HP at best.. but it's "tacticool" or whatever the equivalent is in the car world...
never had any sensor issues either like some like to claim...
I did forget to clean my wife's KN filter for about 4 years.. (cleaned my daily driver but always forgot her car) never had any issues and I didn't see any MPG difference before or after..

Better airflow? ? Yes. Better filtration? Questionable
Better mileage?? Never
Any other questions??

As better filtration is questionable - it is possible to do a worse job than standard filters and therefore put more wear on the engine?

I really don't see any difference, but I still like K&N.

I see oiled elements, non oiled elements made of similar materials, conical shapes, big giant dump truck looking bucket looking ones.....I see new pipes/tubes/hoses, some are in a box, some aren't.
WTH.....what happened to just a round paper filter for $3.99?

yeah.. 1hp.. same improvement if you left the toolbox at home...

Benja....yes on the potential for increased wear due to poorer filtration
Power?? well possibly if there is indeed an increased airflow.

So increased airflow would mean more fuel burning, too.....so less economy but more power? But they also say better economy.
I'm lost.

Ya a a a a. Find me more mileage and I'll hand you a C note myself. Yes it's a lie but the dream sells parts right?!
It's not anymore fuel per HP produced. That's a constant. It's the potential for increased airflow and fuel used as im sure you well know
